In which cases do you think an artist's double album is their very best work?

The Soundtrack Of Our Lives had the right idea - aside from one EP, everything they released was a double LP.

    Moonflower by Santana.

Some will disagree with this but I believe it is their best.

I believe it was recorded from a few different concerts on that particular tour if remember the booklet correctly. Got to here him on a simulcast on WBCN when they were a regular radio station at smaller venue somewhere in Boston it was back in the early 80's. He sounded pretty dang good.

You could flip a coin between that and 'Fillmore east' and you'd get top notch music either way. I like 'Fillmore East' more, but it's a matter of taste and both are great.

No to Tusk. Wildly overrated on this board.

Manassas - they only had two albums!

For you folks choosing Tusk, do you mean it's the best by that version of FM, or the best by any version of FM? I'd agree with the former; certainly not with the latter.

I just finished listening to the new deluxe box and it still is a work of genius, even after all these years. And what a brave step it was for an AOR band of that caliber. I'm sure something like this will hardly ever happen again. The record companies are not open for this kind of experiment anymore.

I have not read a stitch of this thread, but I can imagine what a large percentage of the responses were, which is why I came in to say blind
