Anyone enjoying this, currently nearing the end of its first season on PBS?

Set in pre-WW II India, the ruling British elite and the complex Indian society in conflict with each other, and among themselves.

Mixed motives in many of the leading characters, scheming and injustice galore.

    Very good acting. Highly recommended!

Watched the last episode of the season last night. Some things evolved very unpleasantly - such as the wrong man hung for the murder, and the missionary and his wife and son had a very strange parting. Ralphie is turning into a really devious character.

We're speculating Cynthia (Julie Walters) is Ralphie's mother. She certainly is a viper.

No one else here has seen this? :(

I've watched the whole season with delight. I'm ready for Season 2!

I'm curious how well researched it is, there are so many allusions to Ghandi's struggles, and real politics of the day, that I am surprised that it does not seem to have been derived from a well-established book, but may have come right out of the script-writer's head(s)?

Yes it seems to be a new creation by the writer, but as far as I can tell fairly accurate.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this and are eagerly awaiting s2; we're both fans of Julie Walters, but the whole cast put in some stirling performances. I don't think it was based on a book; as far as my knowledge of the British Empire goes, it seems well researched.

I really enjoyed the series. I was disappointed Mr Sood didn't get life (and ultimately set free) instead of being hung. Hoping at some point Cynthia gets what's coming to her.

We're supposed to be disappointed. . . and PISSED . . . that Sood was so betrayed. Ralph IS a demon. . .

I loved the series and found it hugely entertaining. I really like that most of the characters are fleshed out and complicated.

One thing I'm noticing, is the relative little use of music of any sort. I don't think there will be a soundtrack cd.

It's back (Season 2). Set three years later.

Aafrin is really in deep, and some of the situations stretched credulity.

Julie Waters as the Dragon Lady is still a treat.

I have it recorded and look forward to watching it tomorrow. Sorry to hear about the implausibility. I hope they rein that in.
