I've always liked my Denon DVD-1600 and they can be had for right around 75.00 on eBay.

The price I paid seemed too good to be true for SQ so I’m keeping my fingers crossed it lasts.

Good luck with your wonky unit.

I have a used Monarchy transport, anti-jitter, and DAC, that sounds very good, very well reviewed, perfect condition, low hours, 100% reliable... and I would sell it all for $200 to a SH.TV member. PM me.

Try the used equipment for sale, here on the SH website. I have one about to be listed, and there are many other good values.

I'd rather pay $100 for vintage one that lasts two years then buy a cheap new one.

I dont see the point, you arent saving anything, by the time youve bought a new laser and had it recapped your bargain old cd player will be costing double, you wont gain anything sound wise either. and most old cd players dont even have a digital output.

I buy old dvd players and run em into a DAC, that's where I spend my digital dough. You can get totl types for around 100 bucks or a little more on the bay. Of course all used equipment has risks. 100 bucks is small one.

Is any good stand albums CD players made any more?

For 100 bucks I'd get a quality boom box with remote.

Alternatively, there's the Nakamichi CDP-2A CD player with the TDA1541A DAC that I bought used and serviced around the summer 2016. Lampizator even gave great praise even in its original stock form.

Why the continuing obsession with separates? Now it's a player connected to a separate DAC? Why not get a player with an excellent DAC? Am I missing something here?

You ain't wrong! I'm CD-based generally, and used CD players are a nightmare more often than not.

Manufacturers tend to put their best DACs in their more expensive players. Optical drives are cheap so pairing one with a good external DAC can save money versus an equivalent CDP. Plus optical drives fail, and DAC technology improves over time, so separating them also gives more flexibility IMHO.

No thank you. I've listened to some super cheap BluRay players, and the ones which I have heard did not sound good on Redbook. But perhaps with the addition of a decent-sounding external DAC, that option might be OK though...

Crap, thanks for the numbers, appreciated
    It was a CDB 500
Edit: Research indicates it does carry the TDA 1543 DAC
For 15 bucks I'll give it a whirl

Ok, here's a vintage CD player that I can recommend. And I bet it will last longer than two years. I have two (one is a 211 which is the same but no remote) and I pitted them against a whole bunch of cheapie modern day players, from the last decade, and they didn't stand a chance. It also held up very well against the Sony SCD-XA5400ES. I even compared the 211/311 with same era top of the line JVC XL-Z1010, which back then cost around $1500, and the Z1010 lost big time. (And the Z1010 was new old stock, never opened)

BTW, I got the 311 from ebay for $10, so they are a bargain. The 211 I bought when it came out in '88.

Funny, I haven't seen a laser on the outside since my old Discman
I can hear why some are searching out this DAC chip. Natural and clean. Incredible that sound like this can come out of a Magnavox

Jees, I wonder what is wrong with the many used CD players I have had and enjoyed? I have never had a used CD player that did not work properly.
