I purchased a used Sony DVP-S7000 dvd player for under $100.

    These were $1,000 new.

    Great build quality.

Even has a separate laser for cd playback.

    Real nice cd sound.

I see a lot of those little mini hifi set ups with cd/cassette included usually Sony all in one detachable speakers in thrift stores, cheap do the job if you just want to play CDs. $100.00 bucks or less.
    Audiophile player, No!!!

Seriously cant see anyone getting a hi rez player cheap.

I purchased a 1989 Sony C85ES for $15 as a stopgap. It sounds so good, I haven’t seen a need to replace it.

I bought an Exogal Comet DAC with an external power supply because most of my digital audio is on a Mac Mini server. I ran my Rega Apollo R through the Exogal and was floored by the improvement. Granted, the Rega is not an audiophile piece of gear, but the external DAC made my system far more versatile. That's why I went with separates.

That said, I've only ever used integrated amplifiers. :D

Ditto. Both Regas I've owned were second-hand.
