Warren Cuccurrullo is an oddball, but he put out at least one terrific collection of instrumental guitar rock. It's virtuoso without sounding cheesy. Other Ex-Zappa guys appear as well including mighty Vinnie on drums

Wayne Johnson is a Pet Methany clone in many ways, but I love his work in the Trio with Billy Berg and Jimmy Johnson. Really bright, memorable melodies. "Grasshopper" shows up on my turntable all the time.

Nico Bereciartua is an Argentinian guitar player with an affinity for classic 70s rock. He hit the jackpot by joining the new Rich Robinson/Marc Ford (ex-Black Crowes) band. His one album is a really beautiful, atmospheric collection of electric and acoustic guitars.

Chieli Minucci - for jazz-influenced instrumental guitar but with a lot of rock influence as well.

  7. Stanley Jordan - rather middle of the road jazz but a great player. He plays two guitars at once - one around his neck and one on a stand in front on him! Magic Touch is a good starting point, has a nice cover of Eleanor Rigby..

Excited to see someone mention Verlaine's 'Warm and Cool'. I love that album.

Takeshi Terauchi - japanese surf/psych, although some of his songs also incorporated traditional japanese elments too. Very cool stuff from the 60's and early 70s.

Not sure if he was mentioned, but Terje Rypdal has some great stuff out there.

An artist I haven't seen mentioned yet is Pete Haycock. I've had the album Guitar And Son for decades and it was my first introduction to guitar instrumental albums.

I posted this on page two. The entire album is excellent; glad to see someone else mention it.
