    Saw these guys at a taping for Mountain Stage radio show a couple nights ago and really dug 'em. Great interplay between the electric guitar and the pedal steel. Sorta reminiscent of The Ventures and Booker T. & the MGs....

    Mahavishnu John McLaughlin and Devadip Carlos Santana's Love, Devotion, Surrender is an intensely spiritual album that gets a lot of spins at my house.

    I've been following Nick for a couple years. I like what he's been able to do on his own, no label support or drama, just relying on his music.

    Yeah, I discovered him this year too (thanks to a poster up here responding to a thread I posted about my favorite guitar solo from a recent album).

    Remarkably Human is an incredible work of musical art. Not just the guitar work. What an amazing album. I bought all 4 of his albums at the same time via his website, that one is the best by far IMO. Took forever to get them (& I had to bug him about it twice b4 he got time to send them) but it was worth the wait.

    Moving on to your question as far as recommendations go for something you may not have discovered yet, this is my favorite rock instrumental album (and I have quite a few of this sort of thing, like you I dig artists like Satch & EJ as well, although Jeff Beck does nothing for me songwise), Andy Timmons' Resolution from 2006.

    I can also highly recommend other albums by Andy, like his latest one

    or the live DVD for the Resolution tour:

    or especially his The Spoken and the Unspoken from 1999 (a few songs have vocals)

    Oh yeah, been ages since I listened to him. I have two of his albums, the first (called "1990") which was all instrumental, and "Wave" which was more a vocal/band type thing. I need to spin those again. He dropped off my radar years ago but I need to see what else he has come up with! Thanks Jimmy.

    His catalog is not very deep, but there are a couple of releases, mostly instrumental.

    This one, Rest in P, came out only as a Japanese import. The tracks on EP Jams from the Heart are included here under different names, and there's also his Game, Dames, and Guitar Thangs, which is much more widely available.

    Khruangbin has quite a few fans here. One of the best albums from last year. Wonderfully melodic and dreamy, very much of a Peter Green "Albatross" guitar vibe.

    Since this thread is going every where, I'm gonna add this band NIACIN is a neo-fusion instrumental trio featuring bassist Billy Sheehan, drummer Dennis Chambers, and keyboardist John Novello. Founded in 1996. I was all over this when the debut came in the late '90's. First thing I notice upon listening ,no guitars at all. Second thing I realized after playing the CD through, Didn't miss the guitars at all! Third thing and the most relevant to this thread......I'm a big time guitar (ex) player & enthusiast !!! Great instrumental music .Wife 7 I eaw them at a little club great show! didn't miss the lack of guitars at all.

    Yikes! I think I am going to have to make myself a spreadsheet. Seriously, I thought I knew a lot about guitar music. Okay I'll throw one out;

    I was just coming back in here to mention my hero, Tosin Abasi -- he actually plays a lot of clean tones, very math-rock. Good call.

    Also, there was a fantastic fusion player in a trio that opened for Al Di Meola a couple times in the 90s, I wish I could remember his name.

    The two Jan Hammer/Neal Schon albums are largely instrumental.

    Thanks for posting this, far out indeed. I'll have to see if she's released anything with Susan Alcorn. Her discography is deep, including solo, trio, quintet, septet, and octet albums with her as a leader. I picked up Saturn Sings in 2010 and pretty much everything since.

    Here she is with Marc Ribot's super-fun Young Philadelphians band ...
