Yes, I have experienced this too. I got some of the Bob Dylan sets very cheap six months down the line and also some of the VU sets. However you risk the opposite happening and you can never tell which way the the cookie is going to crumble. Nowadays I tend to pre-order if I really want the set. If it is something I feel I would like but not be too disappointed to miss out on I may wait to see if a bargain appears. This rarely happens though if you plan it so you need to be sure about your choices!

Another possibility that I haven't heard much about is something to coincide with the Elvis '68 Comeback. Surely they must have some release planned for such a mulestone in his career other then a limited theatrical run?

Don't worry. People tell me that CDs are in their death throes so none of this should be a concern.

Nothing to see here folks, everything's perfectly under control.

Hmm, these are interesting to me because they won't create much duplication with my existing collection (based on what's supposed to be on them)... plus there's the upcoming King Crimson box set, and their production value is usually worth the cash year after year. That's not so bad

Only other big mega boxes I've grabbed so far this year are The Rolling Stones' Studio Albums Collection 1971-2016 vinyl, and both the Fleetwood Mac and Roxy Music self-titled boxes, all of those were definitely worth the ridiculously low Amazon prices I paid (plus the latter two included unreleased 5.1 surround mixes). Pink Floyd's Animals in 5.1 would be nice, but I need more details first, same with the Stones' Beggars Banquet

At this point there kinda isn't a real need for one. They already released a well mastered CD box ("The Complete '68 Comeback Special") for the 40th containing the original album, some bonus tracks, the 4 (virtually) complete black leather shows, and the rehearsals on a 4 disc set. Still in print, highly recommended.

Also recommend if you fancy the FTD release of the soundtrack album ("NBC-TV Special") which contains loads of studio outtakes. I think with those 2 you're pretty much set comeback special wise.

Now what I would like to see them do is reissue the DVD box set that came out around 2004-ish. That never should have gone out of print in the first place.

That just makes it worse! Imagine how much The Cutting Edge would’ve been with 18 LPs!!

I ordered the Grateful Dead Northwest Box.

Ramones Road To Ruin interests me.

Metallica.....And Justice For All-I am really hyped up for this.:righton:
Just by the previous boxes I know this will instantly become one of my favorite Super deluxes ever!I`m not even concearned about bass just riffs and demos.
Maybe Lars and Mustaine can agree on the song credits and we`ll also hear the No Life Demos also.

And finally if Led Zeppelin opens the vaults this fall I am completely IN!
It`s probably something short. If in fact it turns out to be a huge epic career spanning retrospective all the better. I`ll take the biggest configuration available NOW as opposed to over a decade!

There will probably be more announcements from different bands as we head closer to the fall but at this point & into hundreds of dollars these are the ones I am obsessed with hearing.

richierichie My glass is always full.

    I love box sets. The later third of 2018 is unprecedented in the number of releases I myself am interested i, well not just interested, I'm gonna get the bloody things. Definite orders;

The White Album S.E.'s in at least 2 configurations.
    The Band - Big Pink 50th S.E.
Pretty Things - SF Sorrow 50th Box Set, I love these guys and don't give a monkeys how many copies of SF I already have. For me it's a case of giving the guys something back for over 50 years of great music.
Tom Petty - An American Treasure, an apt title for a great man. May also get the vinyl box.
Doors - Waiting For The Sun 50th S.E.
    The Action Box Set.
    Joe Strummer - 001 S.E.
Bob Dylan - Bootleg Series Vol. 14, probably BOTT, but whatever it is I'm having it.
Pink Floyd - Animals S.E. if it arrives.
Stones - Beggars Banquet, as above.
The Who - Sell Out, as above.

    Maybes;
Kinks - VGPS, depends on the extras and duplicates with the 3CD set.
John Lennon - Imagine S.E. & Bluray, probably a definite. I'll wait for reviews of the book.
Small Faces - ONGF, depends on the mastering and duplicates with the 3CD set.
David Bowie - Loving The Alien CD S.E., I have the other 3 boxes but the 80's isn't my favourite Bowie period.
King Crimson - The next big box. If financially it's a toss up between this and Bowie, KC wins.

Then there's a triple live album from the great Big Big Train at the end of the month, regular releases from Macca, The Coral, Israel Nash, Paul Simon and it goes on and on an.............

I know I want the Dylan box (if it's BOTT), and hope it's not a fortune (I'd never be able to afford something like the Cutting Edge version known as "Big Blue"),
    but the Ramones one interests me;
I looked online and only found this (and I did not click the link above the text):

Your probably right regarding the fact that there is probably not much left to release, but I can't see EPE let this anniversary go by without trying to make a few more bucks. What I would like to see (well maybe I shouldn't speak since I'm already going to be spending a ton of money later this year ) is a mainstream box set encompassing everything in the 40th anniversary set and the FTD's with a new blu ray/dvd remaster. (Video to also be sold separately of course ;D ) They showed they are willing to rerelease FTD stuff for the mass market with "Boy from Tupelo" so why not do it again with another major career highlight? After this, I can only see Aloha getting such treatment in the future.

    I’m in for:

    Egypt Station (I’m a sucker)

WA50 deluxe whatever it may be

Imagine deluxe signed book, deluxe music and probably the blu-Ray(s)

    Village Green 50th

Bob Dylan Bootleg Vol 14 (please be Big Red)

Big Pink Deluxe (wasn’t going to but that amazon sale price was too good to pass up).

I’ll get Bowie, but probably wait a year. I got the last two for pretty big discounts from importcds

The real question is where can I fit another shelf to hold these 35+ LPs?

Yes, between a potential White Album set and the McCartney Archive sets, it's a great nightmare to have! :D

Like the Pepper box last year, I'm grateful to still see such sets like these coming out in celebration of these albums that have brought so much joy over the years. After all, I doubt we will see such elaborate releases for these beloved albums in the future. Especially the direction physical releases are headed in general. I'm thankful I can at least get a modest handful of the ones I really love (and will repeatedly play).

Paul, White Album, and Bowie are top 3 for me to get first.

Imagine would be next, and as others have stated it looks like 2019 for the next Paul Archive releases.

Your mileage may vary. Yeah, overall expensive no matter which band is your favorite.

I am excited for the White Album and if the Dylan is BOTT that will be a winner. Village Green and Odgens are done to death. Why again and again. Road to Ruin I have already, except now there is a remix and another live show. Not interested. The Bowie Box is my least favorite period. His fallow years I'd say. I love Tom Petty but I pretty much have almost everything. . . The real xmas gift would be a re-do of the entire Hendrix catalog. Even a remix if that's the only way we'll get an Electric Ladyland we can listen to. It's hard to see what might be on Imagine that we don't already have in dozens of demos and takes released over the years.

  23. Ken.e.

    Ken.e. Spinning music since...

Could not agree more about the $ spent and to be spent. I just got the George Harrison box Concert for George and Yes Steven Wilson Mixes which are a huge improvement on a few of the albums. Thank goodness that music from the Big Pink doesn't grab me because I have the record and nothing extra has me pulling out my wallet. The David Bowie set and Tom Petty set are going to be a small fortune but necessary to get. I picked up Tom Petty live rediscovered Anthology, had to. Then there is the predicted White Album 50th and Red Rose Speedway paired with Wild Life. Paul's McCartney's and Simon's new album. Imagine which I have 4 versions of already.
Now if I see something good coming out I say "oh no!!!!!!"

I’ve been collecting the Marillion deluxe sets and I read the next one up for this treatment is Clutching at Straws. I hope it’s released this year (perhaps in the fall).
