I'm sure he's competent, but Blur wasn't that great.

I had a wonderful time in my youth air-guitaring along with his riffs on those 90s Blur albums and loved his first solo album. Looking forward to seeing him live when he comes here on his own in about a month!

An incredible guitarist. My feeling is he took the lead-rhythm playing of Pete Townshend to an even higher degree of excellence. He also steered clear of classic rock guitar solos (with a few notable exceptions) because he found something more interesting to do.

One of the things is that he makes his playing look so easy when it's impossibly difficult.

Remember that Stephen Street considered him the best guitar player he'd worked with since Johnny Marr, and that was before Blur's first album.

Definitely up there with Marr. Graham's my favorite guitarist from what I'll call the 90's era.

    Certainly one of my favourites!

I hold his solo catalogue in a very similar high esteem to Blur. One of the things I love about his work is how different his albums are, you might get an album where he is seemingly in Nick Drake mode (The Spinning Top), and on another he might make most punk seem like The Carpenters by comparison (The Golden D). Very few people have his versatility.

I thought Blur were really great. Parklife and Mod Life were so eclectic and a wonderful alternative to grunge.

Then I saw them live on the Parklife tour. I had no idea that Graham was such a monster.

If you need any further evidence that the man is a wizard:

I've never been very impressed by eclecticism, too much like skill over artistry. I'm never sure what I'm supposed to be impressed about.

    I voted 'Who's Graham Coxon?!'

No way is he 'up there with Marr, Butler, Greenwood etc'. He's not even 'up there with Paul Banks'!

He's an indie guitarist so for me can never feature in any 'best ever' polls because they just aren't all that great at playing. However, what sets out the best indie guys from the rest is their creativity. Coxon is definitely one of the better guys in this area. I still think that Marr is the best in this 'category' but Coxon is up there for sure. Do they deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Jeff Beck, Clapton, Gary Moore, Jimmy Page, Brian May, Hendrix, Vai and Van Halen etc? No way.

Yes! He’s one of the best guitar players in the last 25 years. He’s inventive, creative and have class. Great electric and acoustic guitar player. Versatile too.

I have a ticket for his Los Angeles show! My wife and friends don’t really have an interest but I wasn’t going to miss his only LA show.

Last time I saw him with his band in Portland in 2004 I think. Then with blur at the Hollywood bowl for magic whip. He is an amazing guitar player and his solo albums are really good.

Graham is Blur’s most vital piece, like Jimmy Chamberlain is to Smashing Pumpkins. Without either one, the sound of their respective bands are EXTREMELY lacking.

I went with not up there but still excellent. I just think Marr et al wrote some seriously challenging pieces compared to Coxon. I do love Blur but they are more of a group effort (especially compared to the Smiths, where it was Marr doing pretty much all of the writing solo and then Moz tacking words into completed tracks.) Damon Albarn is at least as important to Blur as Coxon is if not a shade more.
