No because it is undead Paul doing the concert tours. Dead Paul retains the mystique, along with dead John and dead George.

And live Ringo enhanced his mystique with the whole no autograph policy.

If anything he's giving new fans a chance to see him. Bucket list of folks who didn't see the Beatles Live!

IMO, Paul has handled his stratospheric level of fame with unparalled graciousness and, given all he's accomplished solo and with the Beatles, a remarkable humility. Not like there was a template or precedent he could refer to for dealing with their comprehensive influence and celebrity.

I think that Paul likes what he's doing so he'll keep doing it until he can't do it any longer.

Yes, that is the essence of the OP.

Not sure if "myth"is the right word: 'legend' or 'legacy' is better. Excuse me for my crappy english. ;)

Myth? What myth? Legacy?...entertaining his fans with the music he has created seems sensible, not pandering.

Could we agree he tours more this century than the last one because George and john have passed and those two would have been more critical of tainting the Beatle legacy?

Perhaps Paul will ruin the Beatles myth if he publicly sings "Revolution 9" backwards.

Truth be told, Jim Morrison is still alive living in Paris working in a boulangerie.

Simply put - no. He deserves to have fun and live his life and do what he wants - just like everyone - former Beatle or no and regardless of how it affects the legacy in anyone's eyes.

By the end Paul had the most commercial and enjoyable tunes while John descended into downbeat heroin-inspired songs with nonsense lyrics.

McCartney is ruining the Beatles legend by continually rewriting Beatles history to meet his own ends. He gives the fans what he wants to give them in order to create they myth/legend he wants to manipulate (e.g., how many times has he brought out the carrot "I'm thinking about releasing 'Carnival of Light'!" as a way to create interest in another ordinary tour or album?).

And as far as McCartney himself, I think people have been able to sort his personality out from at least the mid-60's.

The Beatles easily transcend this concern you have.

The Beatles, due to their enormous amount of fame, couldn't get out and mingle with their fan base, but they never really cultivated a "mystique" like Bob Dylan or Van Morrison who were often very evasive in interviews (sometimes declining to give them) and cultivated a mystique by making cryptic remarks and rarely talking between songs on stage. The Beatles regularly gave interviews with candid and witty answers to the questions. Paul and Ringo are still like that.

I can't think of a band that has less of a myth about them.
There are a million books, interviews, articles, we know about their families, friends.
I know more about the Beatles than
I know about some of my family members.

    There is no Beatles myth.

    I don't believe in Beatles
    I just believe in me.
    Yoko and me
    and that's reality.

    :D

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I think he can do whatever he wants. Having the recording the Beatles book, the anthologies, and the remastered material all is doing it's part to bust the myths of The Beatles. Frankly, it makes me appreciate the band more to know the truth behind al the mystery.
