"PonoCommunity continues as normal and is alive and active" You can purchase T-shirts as well. And ponos too.

Putting aside the issue of whether there's a large enough market for hi def digital music, Pono was launched several years too late. Digital music players went from being a product to being a feature embedded in other products (phones). It's the same reason that go pro and digital cameras are dying - they're no longer necessary as standalone products.

    Typical Neil.
What was once the "greatest" is dropped like a hot potato.

  8. With all the time, money and energy Neil has wasted on what we all said from the start was a fundamentally flawed product ,at least from a commercial perspective,we could have had Volumes 2,3,4 and 5 of the Archives.

Pono was very flawed from the start. I would be part of its prime market, but had no interest in buying one for two main reasons.

    1. The player didn't have enough storage capacity for Hi Res music.

    2. I live in Australia and therefore wouldn't be able to purchase music from the store.

The market needs an audiophile-quality portable music player. I want to rip my LPs at 96/24 and carry them around.

I had hopes the Pono was the answer, despite all the missteps and mistakes. Too bad it fell apart.

I really want to see something fill this void. Listening to an iphone is not an option.

    1. Not true. It has removable storage media/Micro SD cards, so the storage capability is unlimited. That was actually a selling point for me.

There are lots of them across a wide price range and they have been around for years. There was nothing unique about a Pono player other than the audio design by Ayre if you ask me.

Got a signed poster from Neil for supporting the launch of PONO.
Probably the only good thing that came out of the whole deal....

Have you looked at the Onkyo DP-X1?

  21. In what way does a Pono player that you can buy today from any number of legit vendors fail to satisfy your requirements to play ripped LPs?

Why wouldn't the Pono device itself fill that void? It's not like the device stopped working.

As to your other question, there's the FiiO X devices or Cowon's recent efforts. Or an Astell & Kern if you have money to burn.

Well said. It would be nice to have all of the remasters on CD, either in a similar box set package or individually. I have the individual CDs of "Stars 'n Bars" and "On The Beach," as well as a heavily scuffed advance copy of the "Time Fades Away" disc from the 1990s, which I'm assuming is also HDCD? The first volume album box set is neatly packaged and makes for an excellent gift for birthdays and holidays, as I've bought several of those for that purpose.

There are so many Hi res DAPs. Fiio, iBasso, A&K, Sony, Pioneer, Onkyo, Cowon... I mean c'mon open your eyes. Pono player is not the only DAP in town.
