Highly unlikely, the only reason there was an SACD of "Wish You Were Here" is because the mix was already completed, and was shelved for years.
I'm guessing there will be a BD in the Immersion Box though! Though not surround..
According to Chad they are trying to do more Floyd titles but nothing definitive yet.
I really hope they succeed in this. The Wall on SACD would be a absolute must-have for me.
If there is, its not going to be an Analogue Productions limited edition.
And as EMI don't invest in music any more, its not going to happen.
I believe AP already mentioned that they are doing The Wall.
It will be in stereo if so. No surround mix has been made.
Is it impossible to get a license for making a new surround mix (SACD or Bluray) ???
do they still even make SACD's?
Have you been sleeping the last months??
I don't think this is good speculation. I spoke with Chad Kassem, Gus Skinas, and Joel Plante (Guthrie's assistant engineer) at RMAF and they are all aware of the great interest in more SACDs and Guthrie seems quite comfortable with both Gus (Super Audio Center) and Acoustic Sounds.
I think Floyd is a special case and there is a genuine possibility we will see something.
But what do I know? I was the lone guy talking about Wish You Were Here coming to SACD for three years before it happened.
I specifically asked Guthrie at RMAF about The Wall in 5.1. His answer was that "It will happen, but I don't know when." Which of course is a positive maybe.
I thought it was already announced that the Immersion would be CDs + video DVD only?
The 5.1 mix of The Wall has still to be produced, and this investment has to be clawed back, so they need to sell it on a larger scale than Analogue Productions can produce. And EMI won't be doing it. Thats my opinion anyway.
Yes, 6 CDs and a DVD. No blu-ray and no surround.
No doubt EMI's troubles will factor in here particularly on the box sets but the sacd investment may be more driven by Acoustic Sound's situation and band permission for Guthrie although WYWH success may open a lot of minds.
It's on the to do list.
Sleeping, for months? I don't think he's breathing! http://www.sa-cd.net
I have always felt The Wall should be in surround!
It has way to many good places in it for that. Toni Teneall with ya want to take a bath, to the court room, to the dive bombers. It is rich with places to get a most excelletn surround experience!
We now have a tentative answer from James Guthrie, and the answer is yes:
Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here: SACD review and interviews including James Guthrie
Wow, this is the best news I've heard in a while.
It seems like such a waste that they didn't do a 5.1 of The Wall before going ahead with the Immersion box set. They should have waited IMO, even if it meant that the Wall immersion box would be coming out next year.
It's nice that they expect to do an SACD, but that doesn't do much for me since I have a 5.1 Blu-ray system but only stereo SACD.
time to start shopping
If you read the article, Guthrie makes it pretty clear that EMI is the primary force in the "Why Pink Floyd?" campaign, and wanted the Wall out as close as possible with the other two immersion sets. The SACD seems to be more from the Pink Floyd/Guthrie camp.
The problem with doing the mix in 5.1 quickly is that the master is not in great shape, and that he's currently working on the Blu-Ray of the Wall movie.
