I like the bit about shutting off "long, annoying commercials". Apparently that bit really hasn't changed much in the past 60 years. Except perhaps for the number of long, annoying commercials each hour!

I believe you have defined the driving force in remote control development! Do you think the broadcaster upped the volume by 5db for commercial breaks back then?

Ingot remotes (as well as remotes made out of other nice materials like wood) are awesome, and are the only ones befitting gear which is (or pretends to be) "high-end". I always cringed at seeing $$$$ gear paired with the kind of cheapo plastic remotes that ship with $199 HTIBs (ARC, looking at YOU!). Imagine if Porsche fitted its cars with the cheapest off-brand tires possible - same principle.

Aren't "Ingot Remotes" opening up for U2 this summer on their tour?

Here's the three button remote control for my Plinius 9200 integrated amp. It's huge and heavy with an extruded aluminum case. I don't think of it as just a remote. It's also the perfect murder weapon.

Quad 66 preamp remote: a thing of beauty, both functionally and visually (with the sort-of "UK" to accent its origin). Love it!

That Quad 66 remote looks like it would be at home sitting forefront in an arcade game console.

Meh. I assume those 2 buttons are volume up and down, right? For my listening, having just those 2 buttons wouldn't cut it. I like to be able to actually pause, skip, repeat as well as have volume control.

I keep looking for a remote with a "beer" button but I haven't found one yet.

Almost. The semicircular shape of the buttons in un-necessarily complex :D

I have that remote (and the amp that goes with it ). Very well made, very heavy and beautifully finished.

As remotes go, it's pretty cool!

No instructions but after a few hours I was able to conclude that pressing the top button increased the volume while pressing the bottom one had the opposite effect.

One of the few times I actually did laugh out loud at something on the Internet! Hilarious.

It reminds me of a Top Ten list David Letterman did after ChapStick launched a telephone help line for customers. One of the top ten questions people would ask: "Okay. I've got the top off. Now what?"

I have no experience with remotes as cool as the above. But if the question was, "What was the coolest remote you've ever owned," then it would have to be this:
