Why has this brilliant sitcom been ignored for the last fifteen years? I haven't seen it in reruns since Comedy Central dropped it in the early '90s, and there's no talk of it coming to DVD any time soon.

I really wish Shout! Factory or someone would look at releasing this series.

Great show! I'm sure that I have almost every episode on videotape. I'd love to have this series on DVD.

    Cheers,

It's Wikipedia entry says it will be part of TVLand Canada's schedule this coming September. Of course that doesn't help me any. ;)

One of the video boards says it's rumored to come out within the year but that probably doesn't mean anything!

I saw the thread title and got all excited, thinking a DVD set had been announced. Phooey.

Agreed, this was a brilliant, sadly overlooked gem. I'd give anything to see the Gilda Radner episode again.

We're almost to the part where I will start to whistle...

Why not suggest the show to Shout! Factory?

As much as I love this show, I doubt it will ever come out on DVD. Seeing that the much better known and highly praised Larry Sanders Show never got past the first season set (recent compilation not withstanding) chances are sadly slim.

Yeah, you're probably right on that one. Such a shame. :sigh: But you never know. It's cult status might push it over the edge. Also, didn't it have shorter seasons? Maybe a single box with both seasons 1 and 2 could be possible. Or maybe I'm dreaming.

Somewhere in this 40 or so minute interview last month on Fresh Air, Terry Gross and Gary Shandling discussed this show, which provided me a lot of insight (i.e. The show was supposed to be on NBC, but the network had issues with Gary talking to the camera, etc.):

I loved it. I noticed the name "Alan Rafkin", of "Love American Style" et al. fame as director!

Is Mike Tucci related to Stnaley ("The Devil Wears Prada","The Terminal","Beethoven") Tucci?

Great show and I saw it on Fox each ep.six months AFTER Showtime originally aired it.Much (appropro!) fourth wall breaking from Shandling ("You're not gonna use me for your "(self-gratification) "purposes"!)

"this is the theme of garrys show, how do you like it so far,"

The "Laffie" (Lassie) episode with special appearence by June Lockhart makes the set worth buying on its own. Also, the guest appearence of The Turtles (Flo & Eddie) singing a "Happy Together" version of "This Is the Theme From Garry's Show" is priceless. Also, the Chinese chef singing the theme song in Mandarin (except for the words "Garry's Show"). Shall I go on? Every episode of this show is utterly stupendous and I am looking forward to viewing it on a superior quality legitimate copy!

Excellent news! (Does anybody outside of Region 1 not have a multi-region player?)

The bit that I still remember about 20 years later is from the episode where nude pictures of Garry's mother at something like Woodstock surface in some magazine. He's distraught about this, although she couldn't care less, so he goes to his father's grave to 'talk' to him about his misgivings. Of course he 'hears' his father's ghostly voice and gets some advice.

Then, as Garry's walking away, some other random guy walks up to his dad's grave, looks down at the headstone and says into the air "Mr. Shandling, I just lost my job and I don't know what to do. Can you help me?" :biglaugh:

    Brilliant stuff!

    Exactly.

My concern about region 1 was the price - oh, and customs... But I have a friend heading to the States in a few weeks. :)

Now can we have "Larry..." as well?

I fear though the music clearance is the stumbling block.

    God bless Shout! Factory. :goodie:

I wish it wasn't so expensive, but it's understandable why it's priced that way.
