Rock 'n Roll and Popmusic always seems to celebrate youth (especially in the fifties and sixties). So I was wondering if there are any good songs to make us (forty-somethings) feel better about ourselves

At least you're not "39 And Holding," like Jerry Lee . . .

Just listened to Keep On Smilin by Wet Willie. Seems like a good strategy for moving forward.

I just turned a young 62 years of age on June 23rd.
I think my favorite would be...
Old Before Your Time by Ray LaMontagne.

Happy, healthy, beautiful, fulfilled year and years ahead to you. Now I approach 60 and this song has been a friend since my 30s and I expect will always be. Carole King named Dusty's among her greatest covers, if not the greatest, in this stately interpretation.

I don't know the name of the song but I think it comes from Peter Pan. Some of the lyrics are "I won't grow up" and a lyric that I remember is
"if growing up means it would be,
beneath my dignity to climb a tree.
Then I won't grow up, never grow up. Not me"

A lovely little clip from the era of your birth, and very appropriate indeed:

My grandpa he shouts for joy
    Been takin' care of me
Ever since I was a boy
    He's gettin' old now
    And he really is
