Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

I think "In My Life" is the all-time champion -- just astonishing that John wrote these lyrics at age 25. But for a runner-up I'd like to nominate this lovely new song from an old bandmate of John's:

There's no special song, that I connect with my birthday. But I like to play those bands that I have discovered when I was a teenager. I am happy that I can appreciate most of those records still and I'm happy that a lot of these musicians are still around.

    Happy birthday to you! :)

Followed by "Wait Till We're Sixty-Five" - Alan J. Lerner and Burton Lane from the stage musical On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (but cut for the film).
    and
"I'm Still Here" - Stephen Sondheim

Two definites: Ronno's 'Growing Up & I'm Fine' and The Strawbs 'On Growing Older'. Both jaunty and reflective.
