The Youngbloods classic counter culture anthem "Get Together" is now being used to sell fried
    chicken.

Let's pack it up. Any shred of idealism you had should now be drained from your soul.

I had no idea Jesse Colin Young was that hard up for cash. I would have spent him
    a 10 spot.

I think the "getting upset that counter-culture classics are now co-opted by the man" ship sailed sometime in 1988, didn't it?

Whenever it was that "Revolution" was used for Nike! :)

What if the hippies are chicken-fried, though?

  6. Hasn't "Get Together" been used in ads for years?

EDIT: A quick search turned this up, from 2008...

ANOTHER EDIT: Ah GBV, I see what you did there.

Ironically, those hippie anthems were created and sold to make money.

its been over for a long time....

i don't know who makes money from the sale of the rights to use the song in the commercial but i'm sure its not chump change... i can think of plenty of reasons why one might need the money

I thought the Hippie Anthem was "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". And if it's not, IT SHOULD BE.

The commercialism of the song goes way back to 1967 (1968?) when it was used as public service announcement for 'Brotherhood'

Yes, but was there a profit to be made in selling "brotherhood"? I am actually asking a serious question. Was it a thing or a concept?

Oh no you can't be serious. Do you mean even the Frank Zappa songs that he labeled No Commercial Potential were still created to make money? Then why was it called the counter culture? Oops I answered my own question. Counter it up.

I can't believe people still care about sounds being used in ads. Is this really still a thing? Why?

I wouldn't classify it as a monetary profit. I just checked wikipedia and the ad was as a call for brotherhood by the sponsered by National Conference of Christians and Jews.
I get your point, though. The meaning and impact of these things that we hold important and meaningful in our lives are now being transferred over to sell something that we would have considered 'plastic'. The meaning is completely lost.
