Even after Neil Young did "This Notes For You", he admitted that his non commercial standard was only for rich rock stars who didn't need more money. He could totally understand some one hit wonder selling their song for some much needed money. While they had a vanity label and a decent run of albums, The Youngbloods never had many hits and Jessie's been out of the big time for a long time.

Reminds me of the Col. Sanders, Country Joe & The Fish Story. It seems they they were on the same plane enroute to somewhere. One of the Fish goes up to the Col. And says, "Do you like Hippies?" To which the Col. Replys, "Well they like my chicken, Don't they?.

I was a child of the sixties, my kids children of the 90's and they know and care very little about hippies. So if they happen to see and hear the commercial and want to track down the song, then I'm all for the commercial. As for me the song takes me back to High School.

One would think there'd be a few more hippie-era songs being deployed what with all those drugs being pushed.

I actually know someone who does this. Not to KFC, but to onion rings. And, yes, of course he's extremely overweight.

 

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer goes to San Francisco with a bunch of hippies in search of the Krusty Burger Rib-wich.

 

There's a commercial currently playing here - IIRC it's a PSA with Bon Jovi singing "We weren't born to follow".

 

Nope, it was Chet Powers aka Dino Valenti of Quicksilver Messenger Service fame. Oddly, I've never heard that they tackled the song.

 

Yeah, everything related to boomers & the counterculture is sacrosanct.

 

I know that, but it was still a beloved 60s counterculture song co-opted for product sales, wasn't it? And it outraged a lot of people, didn't it?
