I've been looking for Steve's version of AJA for months, sending out emails harassing everyone who has one listed on amazon, half, and ebay. Finally, this weekend I received confirmation that I had struck pay dirt. Turns out that two different sellers each had a Steve Hoffman-mastered, Japan pressing MCA Steely Dan AJA CD on ebay. One of the CDs was in Australia, the other in the USA. In response to emails I sent them, each seller confirmed that the CD had the proper identifying characteristics. Score! Total price: $22, including shipping.:D :D

    These were the auctions:

    CD in Australia

    and

    CD in USA

I'll keep you in mind, Dave. Maybe we could work out a trade.

So, both copies were made at the CBS/Sony plant in Japan? This would mean the following:

    * The disc has "CSR COMPACT DISC" repeating in the plastic ring.

    * The matrix code is "DIDX-55 21A1" or something very similar (definitely not "MCAD-37214 #####").

    * The disc has "DIDX-55" under the catalog number.

Are these the characteristics you were referring to? If so, then these discs would be considered the Hoffman version.

Yes, each seller emailed me in response to my questions and told me their disc had those characteristics. I'm pretty confident I nailed these.

I received the first of these 2 CDs today, it was the one shipped from Australia. It has all the right markings and is in nice shape. I replaced the jewel case. I don't think the jewel case was original anyway as it lacked the patent pending marking. Haven't listened to it yet. I'll give it a listen when I go to bed.
