Does anyone know how to do what Steve Hoffman advises in his Lesson 1 : Equalization theory when using the small iTunes equalizer?

Well, it's more of a toy than a real equalizer, but you can experiment with it and have fun. But you'll need full-range speakers to really hear what EQing the bass and treble sounds like. Get a stereo 1/8" plug to stereo RCA plugs cable ($5 here in the States at Radio Shack) and plug your computer into your stereo through the headphone jack. Turn the volume in iTunes down around midway so the signal doesn't clip (which it will do at higher volumes) and turn your preamp/receiver's volume up to compensate. Then slide the faders up and down and listen for the effect.

It's impossible to make the kind of small adjustments Steve makes with this equalizer, but you can at least get a taste of how EQ works.

To do any equalization adjustments you have to set the EQ to custom and then change the settings on the equalizer. However, this only works on iTunes these custom EQ's will not carry over to your iPod.
