Personally, I would prefer the stereo mixes (unless the stereo masters are clearly inferior). We trust your ears Steve. If you like it, I'm sure we won't be disappointed.

    Ditto!!

Thanks for asking our opinion, that just shows the class you have and respect for this group of people who are fans of your work, but I'm sure what ever you put on there will be the best representation of the songs.

    Shhhhh.... Silence is Golden.

  8. Ed Bishop

Ed Bishop Incredibly, I'm still here

Hope you like mono, then, because there's not a ton of Tremeloes stereo....just a few single sides, AFAIK, and not the big hits from '67....

As for "Have You Ever Loved Somebody," might as well use the stereo mix if the rest of it's to be stereo....

Actually in a very small way that has already happened. I don't know whether ABKCO did it deliberately or not, but on the European Hot Rocks SACD disk 1 track 7 Mother's Little Helper is stereo on the SACD layer and mono on the CD layer. It has been reported that the US copies are mono on both layers, and the European release was some weeks later, but I don't know why they changed just this one track.

I had this idea in my head as well. I think it's a nice idea. As long as no one minds, I think this "secret" would be very cool.

  13. The 1st 2 Searchers lp's on a MoFi disc are muddy mono and the 2nd 2 lp's on a MoFi were in balls-to-the-wall stereo. I use that "You Can't Lie To A Liar" to demo new stereo equipment sometimes, it just knocks me out!!!

I'll take mono if they do not sound underwater or are not too compressed.
I love, love love this band in stereo. Tony Hatch was a GREAT producer and kudos to whoever engineered the bloody things.

Great track. That and "What Have They Done to the Rain" are two of my fave tunes by the group. "You Can't Lie..." probably wouldn't make it onto most single-disc GH collections, though. You know, gotta keep room for the ol' "Love Potion No. 9" and that sort of thing (original Clovers version was better in some ways).

I have the 3-disc set on Sequel, as well as a few Kapp LP's and 45's. IMO, you need at least a 2-disc set to do the group justice.

The Searchers had only 13 chart hits in the mid-60's, so there's room on the cd for plenty of bonus tracks. How many can you include, Steve? I'd really like to hear the hits + these:

    Sweets For My Sweet
    Farmer John
    Ain't Gonna Kiss Ya
    Some Other Guy
    Don't Cha Know
    Unhappy Girls
    Where Have You Been
    Hungry For Love
    This Empty Place
    Hi-Heel Sneakers
    It's In Her Kiss
    I COunt The Tears
    Sea Of Heartbreak
    I Pretend I'm With You

    Gary,

I think that these two tracks were hits in the UK. 'Sweets For My Sweet' is a personal favorite of mine! Sounds great in Stereo as well - nice mix.

Steve, with an SACD you have room to include the stereo on the stereo section of the disk and mono on the multi-channel section of the disk. I know, additional licensing fees will kill this idea, but I had to bring it up.

    Richard.
