RIP, Jim. Loved the Rockford Files as a kid. Really loved Garner being cast as the voice of God in the animated series God, the Devil, and Bob. Looked like Jerry Garcia, too.

I like him so much I even have his bio. Maverick, Rockford, Supprt Your Sheriff, Great Escape...just an amazing body of good solid likeable work.

And he hated being pushed around and he pushed back, sometimes to his detriment. He was also a klutz, constantly getting hurt through his whole career.

And, the man was good looking, even if I prefer girls, ya gotta admit he was handsome. Like I wished I was. Would have liked to know him (I did see him at the Crosby golf tourney in Pebble Beach years ago, took a snap of him but he was not in a great mood, his putting green practice was not going to his level and he was a fierce competitor in golf).

One of my all time favorites. Did not realize he was that old - Rockford is ageless :)

<== They just don't make them like this any more.

RIP - one of the greats.

Loved him as Maverick, Rockford, and any movie I ever saw him in. One of the most underrated and overlooked WWII movies was this brilliant gem with Rod Taylor and Eva Marie Saint:

R.I.P., a terrific actor in the style of William Holden. From Maverick on, he was pretty damn special!

RIP Mr. Garner. Folks should check out the under-appreciated Marlowe

  17. I was watching Support Your Local Gunfighter last night. Damn, I loved Garner's laconic style.

Just heard about this sad news.

I remember watching the Rockford Files when I was a kid back in the 70's, and later enjoying his various film roles mostly whenever they came on television (i.e. Support Your Local Sheriff, Victor/Victoria, etc.). I pretty much agree with all the previous posts. James Garner will indeed be missed. R.I.P.

This is sad news. I grew up with the Rockford Files & recall regular reruns of Maverick as well. Both are still great shows & hold up well.
Who could forget those Polaroid ads with Mariette Hartley back in the late 70's?
