Starting to view Arrow's Region A (DVD/ Blu-ray ) Female Prisoner Scorpion: The Complete Collection. Female Prisoner Scorpion (1) Collection - #701:Scorpion Female Prisoner Scorpion (2) Collection - Jailhouse 41 Female Prisoner Scorpion (3) Collection - Beast Stable Female Prisoner Scorpion (4) Collection - 701's Grudge Song Criterion should be releasing these later this year.. Two good upgrades for a strong finish to a good year
I've been working my way through this series lately... I've got the first 2 sets but still have to pick up the 3rd.
They had a slower pace but I enjoyed them. I will revisit them sometime but I've been busy with the Arrow box set offerings. I've been picking up the Kitano discs by Third Window Films and the upgrades put out by Criterion.
I have Pitfall and The Face of Another on MoC DVD. BD upgrades would be nice, but the cost of importing Criterions to the U.K. has skyrocketed recently, what with the weak pound and the forced import duty added by Amazon. Criterion's U.K. launch has turned out to be a massive let-down, also. High prices and limited selection has resulted in poor initial sales, by all accounts.
I wish I knew of one. Kitano's movies usually offer unique viewpoint and or style. I had found an old DVD of this film and was smitten by it. A couple of DVDs later and now a Blu-ray!!!
Maybe Shunji Iwai's April Story? And Ronin have you seen this one: Petrified Forest (1973). I got it as it features music by Magical Power Mako who I love, not that the OST is anything like his rather psychedelic albums, which is a shame.
Indeed. I watched part one a few weeks ago, but only just finished parts two and three last weekend. Fiercely intelligent and emotionally heartbreaking in equal measure. One of the best films I've seen from any period.
It was. Did you watch the six part Japanese version, or the three part international version? I went with the Japanese version, and it was an incredible experience. The ending, especially, was really heartbreaking. A classic film.
I went with the international version. My understanding is that the two versions are the same, save for the way the credit sequences are organised. The three parts of the international version still announce the six-part breaks via title cards. Not sure if you watched the scene-specific commentaries as you worked through the set, but one of the commentaries on disc two contains a major plot spoiler for the remainder of the film. Annoying as this was, I was still devastated at the end. What an amazing experience.
It's usually better to watch the commentaries after seeing the film for the reason you mention. I haven't watched them yet, but will try and get around to them eventually. I didn't realise the two versions were the same. I thought the Japanese was the longer of the two, but obviously not.
I almost always do, but these are short, supposedly scene-specific commentaries, and I figured it would be safe to watch them at the end of each disc. Not so for that one particular commentary on disc two, the one where Michiko visits Kaji at the training camp. I wish I hadn't bothered at all. None of the commentaries add anything to our understanding of the film or the process behind it. They mostly just describe the action on screen.
