Those Kikuchi cd reissues are dirt cheap; I'd buy them but I already have all the original LPs in fine condition. Too bad they left out a few like "all about dancing mist", "hairpin circus", "collaboration"... The only record I don't have, "matrix" is being reissued next month apparently on vinyl which is great news!
Resurrecting this old thread for a couple of reasons. First off, more people need to hear this music. Second, are there any recommendations for artists/albums on the funkier side of the spectrum other than the obvious ones like Jiro Inagaki, Isao Suzuki, etc.
Ushio Sakai - Blues in my Soul (1978) Really funky B-3 stuff, with Eddie Gale and Donald Bailey...awesome artwork too, bummer I can't post it....ever since I've been buying Lps here, there's infinite stuff
what do you think about this title, worth reissue on vinyl? Motohiko Hino String Quartet-at-Nemu Jazz Inn: TOKO
Hiro Yanagida's most popular albums are more rock/psych keyboard driven but his later 70s albums have a jazzy fusion sound to them.I ownwhat I thought was all his solo output and then I found this clip.Sounds like him but i can't find any info about this album and can't read any of the Obi,strange how it's been unheard of for so long .

Oh yeah I saw that at DU Jazz Kichijoji last week, it's covers of Brit acid rock, with Kimio Mizutani on guitar, unfortunately it's a mini-LP....that New Herd one looks cool too, there's another. New Herd release in another series, Three Blind Mice: THCD-393, released a month ago, also mini-LP
Just thought I'd drop by and mention a new reissue I'm pretty stoked about: Toshiyuki Miyama & New Herd Orchestra - Jazz In Quadraphonic This is apparently an alternate title for the Eternity? Epos album from 1972. I got this from CD Japan along with the reissues of Billy Harper's Black Saint and Mike Gibbs' The Only Chrome Waterfall Orchestra.... been after both of those for a loooooong time!
I forgot to mention the release back in August of Kiyoshi Tanaka's British Rock Live In Japan. It's awesome!!!
Thank you, this is tha bomb! I don't understand why this is only sold at Disk Union jazz stores, cause it's definitely not jazz, more like early seventies Krautrock....sounds like Ash Ra Tempel or Agitation Free...next time I'm at DU will have to buy!!!
Was able to track down a copy of this (Hiro Yanagida). Great stuff! Unfortunately my copy had no obi or insert, but it did come with a giant poster.
Cool!Any info concerning release date ?Discogs has it as a later release, funny how all Hiro's releases have been released on Mini lp CD and then rereleased over again but nothing on this album.
I got the following in the mail on Saturday...... Isao Suzuki - Cadillac Woman (1977) Sadao Watanabe featuring Lee Ritenour - Autumn Blow (1977) Sadao Watanabe and the Great Jazz Trio - Bird of Paradise (1978) Masabumi Kikuchi - But Not For Me (1978) These are part of the new HQCD reissue campaign for Victor. All feature new K2HD remastering: CDJapan : Complete Listings I've only listened to Cadillac Woman so far... it is awesome! Features Kazumi Watanabe, Cedar Walton & Billy Higgins among others. A SOLID fusion joint with a few acoustic tracks for good measure. Kikuchi's But Not For Me is next on my to-listen-to pile. It got high marks on several music blogs I respect so it's been on the wish list for a while. So glad to finally have it. Also, later this month, the following are dropping: Terumasa Hino - May Dance (1977) Terumasa Hino - Hip Seagull (1977) V/A - Jazz of Japan: Live Under The Sky '77 (1977) Hip Seagull is a MONSTER and it's about time it gets a decent reissue.
I also noticed on CD Japan that three classics are being released on SHM-CD next month. I don't think these were ever issued on CD..... Masabumi Kikuchi - Matrix (1969) Kohsuke Mine - Daguri (1973) Shunzo Ohno - Falter Out (1973)
I ordered Greensleeves from acoustic sounds just for kicks, and I love it! I then purchased the famous sounds of the three blind mice vol. 1 and I love it even more, so I just ordered the 45rpm box set. Where do you guys get your Japanese Jazz CD and vinyl? I would love to get some of the albums sampled in vol. 1, especially Girl Talk.
