I have yet to try to get the SACD (Tower Records Japan/ECM exclusive) of Keith Jarrett's "Koln Concert", but I am happy to say that I already have the HDTracks 24/96 PCM download of "Koln" (which sounds terrific). Do any of you have more preference toward the SACD?

Yes, the Tower SACD is better than the HD Tracks 24/96 version.

All the Tower SACD transfers I have heard (3x Chick Corea, 3x Pat Metheny and 4x Jarrett [including Sun Bear]) have been excellently done. There are a few threads on the discs discussing the sonics.

Not to derail the thread topic, but doesn't this sound pretty terrific even without the hi rez treatment?

I would got a bit further and ask - which is the vinyl version to get? I am not into the format, but I have a friend's B-day coming up soon and I can see that one can get the original fairly cheap in NM condition, but there are also new pressings from 2010 available on Amazon. What should I go for then - vintage or are the new copies, which have not become yellow yet with time, are as good?

I can’t compare to the original but the nice new analogue reissue sounds great. Only the slightest whisper of a few crackles. I don’t play my records extra loud so no particular surface noise issues. I’d still like to compare to a German or Japan original, though.
