It took me a LOOOOOOOOOONG time to cure myself of some of the inane "constructs" involved with jazz collecting. All I can suggest is that you focus more on music you know you'll enjoy MORE THAN ONCE and focus less on buying up everything that has one or two artists you've liked on other albums. Here's a hint: not all music played/written against the grain is ALL that. Sometimes people get caught up in thinking that sub-genres like avant-garde jazz, for instance, are great mainly because they're different. Once you cut through the muck, you realize that it's all just music AND that some of those guys just couldn't play if their lives depended on it.

I think I may have gotten to the, er, 'bottom' of this.

Engineer: Mike Marciano = Trusted know commodity.
Mixing: Bernie Kirsch = Trusted known commodity.
Mastering: Bob Power. Bills himself as a "hip Hop producer". Has done Common, Me'shele Ndegeocello, D'angelo and Erykah Badu.

So between being a bassist's record, he produced along with his wife, and Power's CV, that gets my vote.

    Love the lineup though.

Tina Brooks - Minor Move (Since I'm in the process of packing for a major move it seemed appropriate.)

The fact that Tina Brooks was not more successful just goes to prove that no one ever said life is fair. Can never get enough Tina Brooks. If I'm not mistaken, I think I've seen a Japan only release with Jackie McLean. Anyone have it?

Love that album and cover. Tina is wielding his 'axe'. No to the Japanese release tho.

    This one?:

3 of the tracks were initially put on this album. All 6 eventually ended up on the CD issue:

Yeah, that's the one. I had no idea that three of them were on Jackie's Bag, which I have. They ended up on the CD issue of Jackie's Bag? Do you have it? Guess it's time to play Jackie's Bag, haven't listened to it in a long while.

Never heard of that one, sweet lineup. That I'd like to hear.

Another under-appreciated musician here too. This is such a good album, it deserves some reissue attention IMO. The playing has a wonderful tinge of "out" while remaining grounded. No commentary necessary on the lineup but Terry just rips it and plays some "extended technique" trumpet solos.

I ordered the Classic Quiex yesterday, I hope it was still in stock, waiting to hear. Is that the one you have?

How does the track listing differ btwn the CD and vinyl(s)?

I know, I was hipped to it by one of my Pandora stations! Which is one of the reasons I use it. It's amazing how deep their Jazz 'catalog' goes if you tailor the stations correctly.

It is fantastic. I believe there is a Japan CD as well.

And thinking about it, I don't know I've ever heard Kenny Burrell even remotely play "out" there. I haven't used Pandora in forever, but there was a time when I used to end up with all kinds of cool stuff to investigate that I would hear there. Suppose I should start up again.

    Now playing.... nice and mellow.

Yes, I have thr RVG of Jackie's Bag. No Street Singer though.

Here's another stray Jackie Mclean (which I do have) issued only in Japan:
