Ease It is the only album known to exist by obscure saxophonist Rocky Boyd. In early 1962 he went on the road with the Philly Joe Jones Quintet, and then literally disappeared. Nothing else is known about his subsequent activities.

Here too (with 2 alt takes of "Samba de Orfeu" and 2 alt takes of "West 42nd Street"):

Nobody could keep that label's catalog straight.

Thanks. I thought West 42nd was just a repackaged Ease It, didn't know there were alternate takes.

I have this Rocky Boyd album on a Japanese JazzTime CD (32JDJ-115; 1987) with all 4 alternates.

It kinda is a repackaged Ease It. Black Lion put Kenny Dorham on the cover because he has infinitely higher name recognition than Rocky Boyd. There are several other examples of this in their catalog -- one was pointed out in an earlier Jazz Beat thread. Very confusing and ultimately frustrating to us collectors/fans. The "gray marketeers" (not saying Black Lion is one of those) frequently count on that confusion, btw. Our friend, Mr. Pujol, is known for doing this -- releasing albums in earlier/unusual incarnations to make us think we're not buying something we already have.

As my question was somehow "cut-off" by the change from Thread 26 to Thread 27, just repeating again my question :

Regarding Art Taylor "Taylor`s Wailers" Prestige - do own this as OJC CD, so would be interested in a(ny) insight view whether the Analogue Productions Hybrid SACD release incorporates an significant upgrade sonicswise.....

I don't have the OJC to compare, so I can't say how much of an improvement the SACD is, but it does sound excellent. I have ten of these AP Mono SACDs and have never been disappointed, every one is stellar IMHO. I will probably end up getting the whole series, except maybe the Miles Quintet albums that I have on DCC. Looking forward to the Coltrane with Red Garland that gets released next week! http://store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=results&CategoryID=12&LabelID=4473

    Black Top - #1.

A series of encounters - they're up to #11 which was last night with me in attendance but this is the first one released - where Orphy Robinson (Marimba) and Pat Thomas (Piano, Kbds, computer beats) meet other people/groups. This one was recorded Jan 2012 with Steve Williamson on Tenor and soprano sax.

Still my favorite WR album. I remember hearing a preview of this lp on underground radio in '73 and searching this album out almost immediately at the record store. Sounds as fresh as the day I discovered it.
