It's hilarious how revered these guys are on this board almost 40 years after I uttered to my friends "they suck" upon hearing Live at Budokan.

I can't link it because it's one of those "nebulous" Fresh Sound "bootleg mafia" releases  Look on their site. Catalog number NR3CD-101.

    Kenny Dorham - Matador

Fantastic album with a slight South American vibe, largely because it followed a 21-day tour Dorham made with a jazz festival on that continent. He was profoundly influenced by the experience, and said that he was simply "shattered" by the music he heard, particularly in Brazil.

The track "Prelude" features Dorham accompanied only by Bobby Timmons.

NP Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers (Blue Note) MM stereo reissue 33.3 aka Moanin'
Somehow I never got around to buying this album until now. I have heard the album of course, especially the evergreen opening track. This is the first time I've been able to really listen to it.

There's a reason this album is so famous. Because it really is good.

The Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers Live In '58 DVD from Jazz Icons is excellent. The same quintet as featured on Moanin' performs in Belgium one month after the album was released. At the end of the title track, Blakey says "Take a bow, Bobby."

Thanks. I've seen that and agree. I love Golson's playing and he didn't play with Blakey long, did he?

I've read that lineup of the Jazz Messengers was only together about six months, but I don't know if Blakey and Golson played together on other occasions? There is also this live album, which I don't have a CD version of...

Heck of a lineup on this Strata-East album; it reads like a Miles Davis 70s alumni list: Carlos Garnett, Mtume, Gary Bartz, Billy Hart, Leon Ndugu Chancler...

Is this jazz? I'm not sure that it's even Bossa Nova, but it's very good.

Easily my favorite version of the Messengers. I'd highly recommend seeking this out (3 Original RCA France albums on 2 CDs):

Yeah I was never a big Cheap Trick fan, even back in the day. But I just found your comment about "Kiss records" immediately triggered a remembrance of the lyric to "Surrender" (it's in that huge part of my brain dedicated to junk I have no need to remember, pushing out the stuff I DO need to remember....).

But when I woke up, Mom and Dad
    Are rolling on the couch
    Rolling numbers, rock and rollin'
    Got my KISS records out

Actually, I was reading the liners last night (nice booklet, btw), and in it Jordi claims that he actually worked with the artists to compile this set. Who am I NOT to trust the ever-truthful Mr. Pujol?:

We're still waiting for Vol. 2 16 years on, btw ;)

I don't know who it is on the Amazon Marketplace that actually believes they're gonna get $250+ for this, but hey, gotta try, right?
