I thought Embraced sounded like someone overdubbed separate Mary Lou Williams and Cecil Taylor tracks onto the same take

Surely you realize that your sense o' yuma is just a little bit left of center.

    I like it!

I really enjoyed the textures and interplay between Harris and Hunter on this album :agree:

Rumor had it that the promoters were in the midst of scheduling a "death cage" match between the two during the concert's intermission

Just ask Kenny Dorham how that might've worked out ;)

Just a schizophrenic-sounding album and a bizarre listen for me in the end...

At worst, Cecil Taylor completely confounds me. At best, he made albums like the Candids you mention above, or any of the stuff he made with Jimmy Lyons.

Unlike the duets with Max Roach (Historic Concerts) where there was some evidence of interplay, Embraced just has little interaction between Williams and Taylor.

The more successful collaborations involving Taylor feature more sympathetic players like the Berlin concerts on FMP...

The FMP's ain't too shabby either. And this, IMO, is a Desert Island disc:

Naw, I've posted lots of Arilds here. I've been trying to post a link to a really fine article on Arild's new trio album with Tommy Smith and Paolo (you and I have discussed him) that ran in the May issue of Stereophile. (I know, I could get kicked off here for admitting I subscribe to that rag) but I could never find it posted on line.

So, definitely for AA fans, seek out Robert Baird's article entitled, "What's it all about......." in the May 2014 Stereophile.

Inspired by Soulpopes Manne-Hole recording, some tasty trio for the morning. Recorded May 14th and 19th 1963.

Bill Evans Trio: Live At Shelley's Manne-Hole

    Bill Evans: Piano
    Chuck Israels: Bass
    Larry Bunker: Drums

I thought that was Winslow? IIRC he was standing on a corner, waiting for a girl in a flatbed Ford when he got picked up.

I used to subscribe to that rag too, and based on the article "Rudy's Return" by a Zen Stewart from August '99, I bought all my RVG remasters. I always found their sound kinda unpleasant, but I assumed that was the best you can get on CD. I only had Inner Urge on CD at that time (one of my all time favorites) prior to that and I did an A/B test. It really did sound better. Years later, on this very forum, I learned that Inner Urge is one of the few exceptions. Tough luck, I guess. But I did enjoy the music enormously over all these years. Lemme get my camera so I can show you that article...
