Definitely worth picking up, no matter what format you can find, been OOP domestically for some time but there have been import releases. It's Chamber's second Blue Note release by just a few months and in keeping with the Burrell theme Kenny really shines and gets a good amount of solo space considering that it's a sextet date. Plus, it's got two Coltrane compositions not heard frequently.

I'm listening on Beats Music now. It sounds good. Movie Mars has a EMI-Toshiba for 17.16 + shipping which I just ordered.

It is in print as an Analogue Production SACD or LP http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/49142

$75.00 for the test pressing LP is too rich for my blood, although I'm sure it sounds great. $50 for the 45 RPM is still more than I'm willing to pay at this point. The SACD is something I might check out down the road.

I'm hoping the Toshiba-EMI CD I ordered sounds good.

Beats is alright. I was a Mog user so I had to get used to the new interface. It buffers a lot less than Mog. I only have used it on my PC so far.

Mosaic had a 3-disk set of Paul Chambers' Blue Note albums - well worth it if you can find a copy.

Yeah, that's been on the extended "should-get" list rather than the "must-get" list and it's still a decent price.

I have the SACD and it sounds great. I also have it from the Mosaic Select set and the public domain Real Gone Jazz set (disc 1 is a copy of the Mosiac disc 1 and includes Whims of Chambers). The Mosaic sound as good as the SACD and for $10 more for a used copy on Amazon, that's what I'd buy.

I'd want the Mosaic for the Transition material.

I think so. Was this ever mixed to stereo?

Somehow, considering precedent, "found" would not surprise me.

Hot off the press! I was record hunting today and this was in the new section so I grabbed it out of reflex. :D I bought this originally in 1972, my first jazz album. Talk about culture shock. I had never heard anything like it before and didn't know that the same was true for a lot of other people too. It took a few years and a few jazz ciggies for me to finally start to come to grips with this music. I lost that lp to a flood in 1990 so all I have is the four disc box set on cd.
:shh: I am only on the first track so I'll have to wait for a critique. I will say it sounds really great with the details of this dense music opening up beautifully. The acoustic bass is not lost in the mix and it sounds nice and "woody" on Pharoah's Dance. The drums have a good sound too, the rolls have plenty of natural sounding rumble to them.
So here I am, 42 years on, enjoying this same incredible music only with a better sound system and arguably a better sounding slab of wax.

Oh, and Happy Birthday Kenny Burrell. He's been my favorite jazz guitarist forever I think.
I hope he's having a good time today.
