Wow! Never saw that one before. I took a little detour with Junior Wells while washing dishes. I'll be back in a bit.

Well, it's an interesting record. Produced by Herbie Mann for the Vortex subsidiary of Atlantic. I believe it was Mann's baby. He also produced the Miroslav Vitous (Infinite Search/Mountain in the Clouds) album we were discussing a few days ago. The connection is that both Vitous and Sharrock were in Mann's band at the time. As far as this record goes, I could do with a little less of Linda Sharrock's "vocalizing", but since Sonny's discography is rather short, it's nice to have nonetheless.

I like that comp a lot and the liner notes by Terry Adams are very informative.

Yes, that's the NRBQ dude, right? That comp and and this one never came out in their original form on CD here in the States:

All (or most) of the material on both has ended up on other CDs, though.

That's funny! I was just thinking about that and thought "nah, they'll all kill me if I turn this into yet another Beatles thread". Better you than me :)

I'm playing Clare Fischer's Alone Together again tonight. The sound of this recording is fascinating. The piano sounds like no other I have ever heard on a recording. I recently bought a famous recording on the 3 Blind Mice label which is of course recorded very well. However the piano notes feel like they are poking me. In this case I tend to believe that it is the artist's technique being captured in a way with some really nice mics and that maybe that and their placement is what gives it a supernatural feel to it. This recording simply sounds like a very rich piano captured expertly by the engineer who owns the piano and the studio. His intimate knowledge of the studio and the piano which he owns must have a lot to do with the quality of this capture, not to take anything at all away from Mr. Fischer. His excellent technique and creativity is what really shines here.

I picked this one up at the record shop earlier today. I had heard it once before, but I'm very glad that it's part of my collection now.

I wouldn't know about any CDs. Mine are vinyl copies.

NP Ted Curson - Tears For Dolphy (Arista/Freedom) I love this band. They recorded over two days and released two lps from those endeavors. Bill Barron is on the front line with Ted. Dick Berk is his usual superb self, a really under appreciated drummer.

Had a listen to this album on Spotify, and will now buy a hard copy. Great album, and I particularly love guitarist Ben Monder's contribution.
