It isn't Mingus' best anyway, at least not in my opinion.

Really great; Hall was still at the peak of his playing and Haden offering the perfect counterpoint, sometimes in an aggressive manner. I could listen all day to Haden's sound and pulsation.

I find it completely fascinating myself, love his piano playing. We're all different. I'll have to dig this one out soon (I have the MoFi and the later Impulse from Japan).

Just got home from the Oliver Lake's Improvisation Workshop and I'm relaxing now with some tunes and a wee dram of
The Balvenie Rum Cask Expression with some music before heading off to bed. The workshop was cool and I got to have a couple of conversations with Oliver plus he answered my questions during the lecture part.

Any fans of McCoy Tyner. I think I must have got off to a bad start. I bought Remembering John about 20 years ago and never got into it. I played it again last weekend with the same effect. Any recommendations?

It's funny how a change of stylus can affect your enjoyment of an LP.

A few years ago I found a super-clean, stereo, white label promo of this Brubeck album in a thrift store, and was sorely disappointed when I played it, because it suffered from bad groove wear distortion. Consequently, I filed it away and never played it after that.

Well, this morning I decided to give it a spin, and it plays nearly perfectly! I'm not sure what cartridge I was using back in 2007 or '08 (I was experimenting a lot then with different carts), but the Grado Signature 8MR with MCZ stylus that I'm using now is making contact with a fairly undamaged section of the groove wall, and there is only a slight whisp of noise behind the music.
