He is. Yahel is a great B3er as well. On the Quintet album he switches to piano, and does a pretty good job there as well.

not an easy album to get into by any means , mainly due to John Scofield's very unique way of playing , but him and Joe play wonderfully together , what I like most about this album, though,is Al Foster's highly imaginative drumming , an added bonus is that the drum sound is one of the best I've ever heard on cd

:righton:That's a Jim Anderson recording, I've sung his praises many times. And a similar cast of characters:

Not an Anderson but a Farber, direct to two-track.

Yup, Baker makes sense and they ran in the same circles.

Heard the interview on NPR this morning. Thoughts? I'm experiencing a disconnect with Annie Lenox singing Strange Fruit.

I had to interrupt my listening. It's okay. I've been enjoying a lot of synchtretistic things of late (Dr. John honoring Satch, a few Peggy Lee tributes, a few other things) and this is reinforcing my burgeoning retreat from jazz purism. I think this is worth an open-minded listen but it's probably not everyone on this thread's cup of tea.

I guess I immediately think: "Why?" We just had the Gaga release of tunes from "The American Songbook" and now this. Then I realize, we're going into the "Holiday Season" and these types of releases go over big this time of year. No judgement as to it's worth or validity, just my skeptical marketing-oriented brain at work. You know, old folks (like us) buy this stuff for their significant others while young folks buy them for their parents.

For me whether or not this comes off is based on the production aesthetic and the participating musicians. I can see this being a very "BIG" production rather than an intimate evening with a chanteuse.

in other words it smacks of crass label demographic expolitation arrived at after mulitple seances and focus groups.
