  13. Concerning a query up thread (see Jazz Beat 32) from brimuchmuze about AAJ forums.

The actual AllAboutJazz site itself is still up and can be checked here
    http://www.allaboutjazz.com/index.php?&wi dth=1024

(there is a link to the forum near the bottom on that page but it will not work)

Apparently as things stand they don't have the money to keep the forum part of the site going as no one outside of 2-3 people donate when they need to raise funds.

I would like to see the forum return but even when it was up and running the amount of traffic/posters was way below what it should have been.

I was blown away (or should that be pinned in the listening position) listening to the opening four (studio) tracks on this one. Also (not having read any reviews) was surprised to find the next 5 tracks just as great but covering Jazz standards and recorded live featuring Lee Konitz.

    brimuchmuze,

I used to post on AAJ. . . . Got Xricci's goat a few times and was banned as "Lonson," came back as "Pie-eyed blue" for a while. . . ultimately I found it more satisfying to post at organissimo and that's still my go to board overall. You'd be welcomed there if you aren't already.

AAJ . . . I was basically banned for saying I was only interested in the forum and not the rest of the site. And the forum was interesting but ultimately I had to choose between two as at the time I didn't really have the time for both, and organissimo won the comparison.

Since then I've found internet posting even more challenging. I like to be open and post about my entire life and experience as if these were real conversations. I've apparently lost a friend or two over this, and I've grown so tired of the negativity and bias and meanness on sites that my postings are very different now. It's often hard to give an opinion without someone tearing you a new one openly or covertly, so I don't talk about artists or recordings s much as I used to. It's still nice to read these sites for information, and can be very entertaining to read others views when presented civilly and without a lot of bias.

I just bought this. It's been driving me crazy trying to figure out what standard "Dolphy'n" is based on. It's not the rhythm changes, but it's some other extremely familiar song. They just don't play the theme, but the bridge is unmistakable.

The first track, "Jim Crow" (actually a composition by Bob James called "A Personal Statement" and performed by the Bob James Trio with a countertenor and Dolphy added) sure is interesting.

I am think about getting it as it's currently on sale in Amazon.jp and HMV.jp. Do you think the sound quality improves a lot on this Blu-Spec 2 version? Thanks.
