Here is a good overview from Do The Math of Hank Jones' Great Jazz Trio albums for East Wind with Carter and Williams.

I do have a few reservations about this set (noise reduction, and I never liked the dates with Coleman Hawkins and Don Cherry very much), but it does have some great recordings, especially with Jim Hall.

Recorded 7/9/55 by Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack for the Mingus/Roach Debut Records. With Britt Woodman (tb), Teddy Charles (vb), Charles Mingus (b) & Elvin Jones (d). Only around 28 minutes in playing time, the album consists of four 'standards', three arranged by Charles & one by Mingus. Elvin is playing quietly with brushes & is unrecognizable. Nevertheless, an enjoyable record. 1990 remastering by Kirk Felton.

[IMG] Recorded in Hackensack, 11/16/55. With Coltrane, Garland, Chambers & Jones. This was recorded after the Quintet's first session for Columbia on 10/26/55. Remastering by Joe Tarantino. Apparently the original LP had a green-tinted cover.

Just got home from an outside jazz event, two bands, big jam at the end.

Now I'm chilling to Bennie Maupin's The Jewel In the Lotus (ECM)

Lots of killer music posted tonight.

I'm Sticking with Hubbard this morning. A Soul Funk Jazz classic!

    Players:
This could be considered one of his best IMO. Outstanding group of talent on this album. Sometimes that doesn't work out so well but not here, they groove really well together and all the talent is not wasted. In particular the drumming/percussion is first rate and really propels the group.
