Nucleus : Elastic Rock, We'll Talk About it Later. Ian Carr : Belladonna. Weather Report : First 5 albums. Soft Machine : The Harvest albums. Miles : Fusion period albums.
Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi period albums. And from the Headhunters period, I don't recall seeing any mention of Man-child.
When I found my old records a few months ago, I was happy to find several of my Jeff Berlin albums, which included Scott Henderson on guitar. I also have a few Dregs records with T Lavitz as well. Chick Corea Elektric Band.....I tell ya, a lot of good fusion in the 80s!
As usual, when speaking about ANY style of Jazz, the conversation inevitably veers to the past. As in ALL styles of Jazz, there's exciting, intelligent, beautifully played Fusion being created and played right now! Case in point; Scott Henderson. Seems like most people think his career fizzled decades ago. A charter member of the amazingling under the radar band Tribal Tech. Numerous solo and live releases (a lot of his solo work is Stevie Ray Vaughn-type blues, outstanding!). His latest is a RockJazz/Fusion project; Vibe Station. I understand it's hard to find, let alone hear ANY new Jazz these days but this doesn't mean it's not being created and played. Ya gotta dig!
Don't walk, but run to the record store and get Jack Johnson by Miles Davis. Or else, type real fast and order it on line.
To the Moon, by Pawel Orlow (instrumental jazz-rock / fusion, full-length, released June 26, 2017, Minsk, Belarus) Favourite track: First Flight
Thanks! I've never heard of this particular artist before, but I just ordered this CD from amazon. Great stuff!
I bought this in Italy in 1976 and have enjoyed it ever since. I have two other albums by the band but this has a special place in my heart. Perigeo: La Valle dei templi
If you can find a copy of this at a decent price it's well with the $$$. Terje Rypdal - Bleak House (1968)
