revisited the blu ray now, after seeing ELO last week.

I like it more now than I did the first time around. Lots of great camera work, and while I wish there was a surround option, and a bit more low end in the mix, it's still very good.

Although ELO's touring schedule from 1979 to 1986 amounted to just a handful of dates over several months compared with their activity in previous years (when Don Arden had less distractions from pushing one of his most lucrative acts to remain so productive and profitable), even this reduced activity put a strain on Jeff's relationship with his second wife that ultimately contributed to their separation, and I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must have been for his two young daughters. Kelly might have been planning to call his second album Lights Out, but this was also the supposed headline of his tell-all article about the financial disparity between ELO's co-shareholders and the band's other members, which he tried selling to a tabloid newspaper in late October 1983, or at least that was until Jeff offered him a final settlement to end a lawsuit that had escalated over the last year, massively harming ELO's already damaged public reputation at a time the group needed to continue producing hits. Kelly only went after Jet to begin with, and Jeff happily welcomed him back for two video shoots (in December 1982 and April 1983, respectively), but then officially dismissed the bassist once things took a more personal turn. After switching the focus to his legal employers rather than the label Jeff had been trying to distance himself from, Kelly had no chance of remaining with ELO for their last contractually required album, and he frequently said in his later years that he deeply regretted ever taking the advice of his personal manager, Peter Kuys, who was more concerned with recovering costs from a studio project that commercially failed with advances left outstanding, not to mention a completed follow-up that his record company had no interest in releasing. Himself in a difficult situation personally with a fourth child on the way, it's equally amazing that Kelly was able to somehow get through the mid '80s, yet it should be noted that Jeff really didn't want him being in a position where he could profit from his former association with ELO. Thankfully, common sense prevailed and Kelly was soon back to doing what he did best, say what you will about the ethics or quality of Part II and later The Orchestra...

That appears to be the plan, but I'd hate to draw unwanted attention to this preservation group's efforts - particularly as they're meant to be anonymous (yet I think at least two, if not three of its members are easily identifiable), not to mention a certain ELO archivist has been spotted here in the past. From what I've been told, any attempts to release digital transfers of such rarities as the very different 2LP acetates for Secret Messages or Time will immediately stop if Jeff's camp provide official alternatives, though we all know how long fans have been waiting for these. After the recent talk of something worthwhile being on the horizon, it wouldn't surprise me if this team is waiting to see if Jeff finally plays his hand before potentially making their own move. Either way, you can expect to hear an authentic upgrade to ELO's "holy grail" of studio material soon... For all his promises, those who once trusted Rob Caiger to keep a regular flow of new content trickling out of the vaults have ultimately grown tired of him delivering very little of substance in recent years. Sure, the fault may rest with Jeff or even his manager, though I'm sure they'll all soon be aware of how the more dedicated fans could be treated beyond us getting the occasional live package and mostly unimpressive* new studio projects!

*For the record, I previously listed When I Was A Boy from Alone In The Universe as one of my favourite ELO tracks, but in general it's Jeff's classic-era catalogue that I return to far more than his post-1986 output, so please don't think I'm just automatically dismissing everything he's done without good reason. The truth is that I just feel he's long become set in his ways as a producer, and some of the writing on that last album especially deserved more ambitious sounds beyond rarely straying from the approach we've heard almost exclusively by him for nearly thirty years.

JL must really be needing the dosh$$$ to keep putting out these live albums. Prefer a ELO new studio album ..no money $$ in it I guess, hence.

Does Jeff really sing that chorus in "Sweet Talkin' Woman?" He's 70 years old! Can he hit that high note like they make it look in the concert video?
