It's quite a standard to have to live up to, that's for sure.

I like the new song. Sounds exactly like what I would have expected Munki's followup to sound like. There are some clear similarities sonically to Reverence IMHO - maybe that's what makes it sound like "JAMC by the numbers"? But I'm ready to hear this album, can't wait! They were fantastic live a few years back.

  6. And, the drum machine on "Amputation" sounds so chintzy.

And the song does kind of sound like JAMC by numbers too. I hope this isn't a harbinger for the whole album...

As @Gems-A-Bems alluded to earlier, some electronic drums can sound good (as on Reverence), but they certainly didn't work on Automatic, and they're none too exciting here either. There's a little part of me that hopes this is just a demo.

The new song is ok, but it's pretty by the numbers for them. Live drums would have greatly improved this track.

I still haven't heard the new one. Is it the sound of the drums that some aren't liking?

I like the drums, sounds like an early Suicide vibe, who were always a big influence on them. The new song is a re-make of Jim Reid's solo track "Dead End Kids". Looking at the tracklist, several songs look like re-recordings from Jim's Freeheat project, which went largely unnoticed. Then there's "All Things Pass" which is likely the same as "All Things Must Pass". the Mary Chain single that came out in 2008. Hopefully it's a re-recorded version at least.

    Damage and Joy:

    01 Amputation
    02 War On Peace
    03 All Things Pass
    04 Always Sad
    05 Song For A Secret
    06 The Two Of Us
07 Los Feliz (Blues and Greens)
    08 Mood Rider
    09 Presidici (Et Chapaquiditch)
    10 Get On Home
11 Facing Up To The Facts
    12 Simian Split
    13 Black And Blues
    14 Can’t Stop The Rock

Oh, God. Just listened to "Amputation", it's "ticking" of "boxes" seems almost comical.

And of course the words "Rock", "and" plus "Roll" are in there. Right after the word "f***ed".

I love this band - right down to "Stoned & Dethroned" or "Munki" - but I'm not sure if this will suffice in 2017. I mean.... it does sound like the JAMC. But....that might be part of the problem.

    Let's wait till March :yikes:

Munki originally came with a hype sticker that read "rocknroll". That's kinda their thing.

"By the numbers" JAMC is exactly what I assumed it'd be. They're kinda like The Ramones in that way. They sound the way they sound, and we love 'em for it.

To me, the track lacks the immediacy of their earlier work. I think I'd rather listen to Savages for that.

I fear that they may have it and aren't even trying to use it. Come on, guys.

I'll still see them if they come around.

Hm, not sure if I have seen mention about it anyways. Probably only limited to how many they can sell. :D
I wouldn't trust anything nowadays as vinyl is so niche market anyways and some clever people milk it by teasing collectors.
In real life, as when some label sell real test-pressings, they should be really limited and desired item by collectors. Wouldn't they be really low quantity if real test-pressings?
I wouldn't buy item like that, but if I had to get some to my collection it would be truly unique and limited test-pressing not available in bulk as this.

  23. Indeed, proper test pressings should be very limited items, like less then 10 copies. But "test pressings" are such a scam these days - you see this at a lot of small labels, where they'll have like 50+ "test pressings" on sale for three times the cost of the standard edition. Just a way to fleece the hardcore fans, who are essentially paying through the nose for a standard pressing without even a cover. :)
