I wouldn't call the corrected TAAB DVD even remotely tragic.

    So this is a Dvd-v and not a Dvd-A ????

For those of us who don't have 5.1 yet and just want a good stereo mix/master, they didn't correct the fact that Mew boosted the highs and thinned out the lower-mids in the stereo mixes. The MOFI CD and UK vinyl kill the DVD version, and honestly I'd even rather listen to the US vinyl over that thing. Perhaps my biggest musical disappointment since the Genesis box sets, although at least TAAB doesn't sound THAT bad. I can't listen to it though.

I didn't get the Hawkwind so I'm not sure what happened there, but it sounds like Wilson is insisting on flat transfers for a lot of his work now, which is fine with me.

The less Steven Wilson mixing work that gets diluted in mastering is a good thing for all.

I'm sorry, I am slow. I only listen on CD. What, on the deluxe Benefit, will be on CD only?

Well I think that's a shame there will be no flat transfer of the original mix on CD. That would have been fun.

Yes, I know, but I listen a lot on a portable CD player, believe it or not.

Why does the mock up vinyl cover pictured in post # 58 say 5.1 mix on the cover?

And why is this only on DVD and not on DVD Audio?

    1) As you said, it is a mock-up. :)

    2) Chrysalis policy. TAAB also was on DVD-V.

Thank you. Silly about #1 and sad about #2.

Well... In essence the DVD is DVD audio. It is 24/96 resolution, which is a good thing. I don't understand why you would want it to be 24/192?

Actually that is not what I care about. What makes a DVD Audio disc special to me is the ability to contain uncompressed 5.1 audio, for example 5.1 LPCM or DTS HD Master Audio.

Didn't someone say nobody does a really true flat transfer because if you did it would sould like crap?

Ok, I get it. Unfortunately, I don't have the hardware for 5.1 lossless.

No Dvd-A means no purchase. To use Steven Wilson for this and only release a Dvd-V version stinks......

And the complaining begins. Seems like every time SW releases another vintage rock 5.1 package some folks be hatin' life....

A policy that apparently was ignored when Aqualung was done on Blu-Ray.
BTW, will it be DTS 96/24 or just regular old core DTS?
BTW, BTW, why is the 96/24 17 timed at 5:32, but the CD1 version is 6:20?

Given the size restrictions of a DVD and the other audio on it, I'd guess it's DVD era DTS.

It may or may not. Plus, the equipment used to transfer the tape influences the sound.
A "flat transfer" just means that no EQ, compression or other tricks were used.
