I was scanning the newsgroups and I noticed that the general consnsus is that the new Ian Anderson remasters with bonus tracks are better than their MFSL counterparts...mainly "War Child" and "Thick As A Brick".

I was wondering what you guys thought about the remasters...did they use noise reduction and stuff like with "Aqualung"?

Do the bonus tracks from the 20 Years Box and Nightcap sound shrill and digital or do they sound more in line with the albums they follow?

The Anniversary remaster of "Thick As A Brick" sounds *funny* to me. Is that noise reduction or just how the album sounds?

I listened to the LP the other night and thought it sounded pretty good on the whole. I might have liked some more bass, or (gasp) less dynamic range (I don't mean compression, I just mean the difference between the acoustic guitar and full band is perhaps greater than it needed to be), but on the whole it sounded good.

I think the first CD (or was it MoFi's? I can't remember) used a tape with some differences, didn't it? (Noticeable at the very end.) Is the new one the same as the LP?

MFSL version of "Thick as a brick" is in my opinion more enjoyable than 25 th anniversary edition. Unfortunately I have not heart latest EMI UK remaster and can not compare it. As to "warchild" I like latest UK remaster and I suspect it is absolutely the same as US one. In my opinion it is quite close to MFSL "warchild" but when you hear when a spoon touches a cup
on MFSL. Wow. Very alive. love MFSL "warchild". You need to listen it loud.
I was given the same advice recently. When it is listened loud it shines.

Also there is new crop of Jethro Tull remasters coming this June
from Toshiba/EMI . They will release

"Benefit", "Heavy Horses", "Minstrel In The Gallery","A Passion Play",
"Songs From the Wood", "Stand Up" "Thick As a Brick", "Too Old to Rock 'N' Roll: Too Young to Die!", "War Child"

I hope they will be different from current UK/US remasters.
So we have more questions which is the best one
    :)

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

I thought they recently remastered the UK version of Benefit?
Another reissue? They didn't remaster the US version of Benefit yet...maybe that's what's coming???

They are available for pre-order from redtrumpet.
And it looks like Jethro Tull catalogue will be released at once
in Japan. I suspect "This was" TOCP-65879 was the first of them.
    Due date is late June.

    Regards Mikhail

Does anyone know if the Japanese releases will be in HDCD?

I do not know about HDCD. But be aware that EU "Heavy horses",
"Songs from the wood". Are going to be "Copy control CD".
    Could be very inconvenient.:(
