Please help me choose the right Steve Wilson Aqualung fr Amazon US
Original stereo mix: The Aqualung 2016 Adapted Edition has a new transfer of the original master tape that Steve Hoffman used on the DCC CD. It is unknown what caused the glitches on the earlier 2011 deluxe set or for sure which tape was used. The only major glitch on the master tape that was found was the one reported by Steve Hoffman. Warner fixed that glitch.
    PLUS
Adapted Edition bonus tracks now in 5.1 by Steven Wilson: *not on 2011 set in 5.1
    *Just Trying To Be
    *Wind Up (early version)
*Wond’ring Aloud, Again (full Morgan version)

All problems fixed for the Adapted Edition 2016:

    2011 Aqualung 40th problems:
Times are from the beginning of the album:
5.1 mix on both DVD and Blu-ray:
    Cross-Eyed Mary glitch - At about 7:53
Cross-Eyed Mary - At about 10:42 the last few notes are erroneously repeated at the very end of the track
My God glitch - At about 27:45
Wind Up glitch - At about 41:27 on the Blu-ray (At about 41:24 on the DVD)

    Original stereo mix on Blu-ray:
My God several severe glitches - Starting at about 24:23, then 25:31 and onward.

    Steven Wilson posted:
Thank you for this. I just listened. The 3 glitches on the 5.1 mix are annoying, though perhaps because I'm a seasoned vinyl listener, and they remind me of vinyl ticks which I'm so used to, they don't annoy me as much as the TAAB glitches - still no excuse of course. The repeating section at the end of Cross Eyed Mary is just the very tail end of the reverberating final chord, and only heard at significant volume. Though again that's not very good and I'm not happy that it happened.

The glitches on the original stereo transfer are indeed horrible.

I will mention to EMI and Ian these issues, I very much doubt they are aware of them.

It is easy to put what ever you want as your (or his) signature. Then it would be included in every post

    How is the TAAB vinyl?

@tootull So, just how bad are these glitches on the TAAB 5.1? Are they a deal-breaker, or barely noticeable? I'm asking because I found an uncorrected version at a good price, and I'm on the fence about buying it.

You will notice the missing "Yeah" at the very end, but otherwise it is just Peter Mew's mastering on the uncorrected version.

5.1: If you can live with at about the 7 minute mark there's slight cymbal torture, and 3 glitches noted at the beginning of side one. First two drop outs are strangely enough on the first two uses of the word down. Then something strange (drop out?) at the 3:03 mark. (Defects with the 5.1 at times 2:32, 2:48 & 3:03 of "Side 1") then life should be good...

+Steven Wilson acknowledged that the Peter Mew mastering is too bright.

I will have to see if I still have my uncorrected DVD. I don't remember noticing any dropouts, but it was a long time ago. I don't have any doubts that they are there. Are they dramatic dropouts?

From a 2012 memory, they are not too dramatic. I've listened only to the corrected 5.1 DVD since. I consider the 2012 mastering to be a torture not worth repeating.

Really hope Ian will change his mind, and include the overdubs-free mix Steven did for the 40th Anniversary. And of course, hi res and CD WITHOUT Peter Mew mastering

After a longer time I've listened the flat transfer stereo mix (24/96 from Collector's Edition DVD) and unmastered Steven Wilson remix (24/96 from HDTracks).
I know that original mix has many fans here, but the Wilson's remix is my way to go. Much more clarity and nuance.

I am curious for those who have listened to the original mix flat transfer, how does it fare in a shootout against the MFSL?

Was there a bunch of corrected DVD's released? How to tell whether my copy is with glitches or without?

Yes. If your DVD has a line under "album duration 43.30" you have the corrected version.

What was that? A mix missing tons of guitars, etc. Brick "unplugged"???

I think it was a "bare bones" mix without the overdubs

It would be wonderful to hear it!

Norco74 For the good and the not so good…

As a lot of these sets were recently offered by Burning Shed, I finally unwrapped my TAAB set tonight.

I found a wrapped copy of the set last year for $30 in a local shop in Montreal and was on the fence as what to do with it.

I can happily confirm that the set came with the corrected DVD (line mark under the duration time). :D
