I'd like to finally get this recording on CD. The new Capitol remaster was released today, May 20. Has anyone heard it yet, and if so, how does it compare to the MFSL UDII GAIN System CD? I've not read great things about any of the GAIN System MFSL's.

    Thanx in advance.

Yes, let's hear some reviews of the new SFTW and Heavy Horses (my two favorite JT albums).

I can't believe that the CD stores on the east coast have been open for more than 4 hours now and no one has reviewed these yet...:)

I like the MFSL version of SFTW. The newest remasters of "Minstrel" and "Too Old are pretty good but there is room for improvement. IMHO.

There's no contest - the Mofi by a mile. I have all of the Tull Mofi's. While the new remasters are good (and a big improvement over the original cds), they are not nearly as good as the Mofis. The Mofis are smoother, richer and more analog sounding.

Have you compared them side by side?

I picked this title up over the weekend. Honestly, I have nothing to compare it to, other than the standard old LP. It sounds real nice to these aging ears :). I remember there was once talk of excessive hiss on some of the earlier CD release(s). Honestly, It's real quiet...I was pleasantly surprised by the sonic quality.

I talked from "Songs From The Wood"... I also have all Mofi's... best sounding version... I go for DCC's compilation.

Yeah... I liked very much Mofi's vinyl... till I got Aqualung from DCC! It's one of my all-time faves from DCC... perfect remastering!!!!!!!

I don't have the DCC copmpilation, though I do have the DCC Aqualung (best cd version of that album by far. DCC aside though, having listened to the Songs From the Wood remaster side by side versus the Mofi, to me the Mofi wins by a mile.

That's what I love about this site. People hear things very differently.
