Jim Croce 24K In A Bottle - 2 Questions

I just got a copy of this - what a great disc! 2 questions:

1) I have repeatedly seen reference made to this disc as "the rarest DCC gold CD." Is this true in any sense or is that just (eBay) hype? If so, why is it any rarer than the other DCC issues? Not that any of them are commonly found right now, mind you...

2) Oddly, my booklet for the CD is cut slightly larger than the jewel case. It won't fit unless I turn it sideways, and even then I have to sort of jam it into the jewel case. Any idea why? I think this is a first for any CD I own.

If you like Jim Croce's music then I HIGHLY recommend seeking this out.

Great job, again. Your work on that stuff has rendered obsolete my old copy of "His Greatest Hits," which was the first CD I ever bought.

Steve, any way of finding out how many of these over-sized booklet editions were actually done? Mine's like this as well.

FTR The rarest of all DCC gold cd's is the 24kt Sampler.

 

I love my Jim Croce CD, but it also made me realize some of the perils of having such a super mastered copy.

I'm not sure if they (the producers and recording engineers) did it intentionally because they knew some would get lost in the process of original to album or what but MAN is there a lot of reverb on Jim's voice.

On some songs I can only listen for a short while before it becomes an irritating distraction. I realize reverb has been added for decades and in some cases really helps a recording, but WOW- at least to my ears, there is WAY too much.

Again, maybe its only because I can hear it on such a clear- super mastered copy since I never noticed it before, but whew!! Wish I could turn it down some.

I have not sought this CD out because I was under the impression that all the tracks on it were also contained in the 50th Anniversary Collection, which was also remastered by Mr. Hoffman. Are there any significant differences between the 2 discs (I know the Anniversary collection is more comprehensive and contains many more tracks, but other than that)? Is the sound quality different? Something to do with mastering using vacuum tubes or something? Any tracks on the 24K in a Bottle collection that are not on the subsequent Anniversary collection?

 

Steve did two Croce gold discs for DCC. I have the first on "Gold in a Bottle" which contained "the first LP "You don't mess around with Jim" and his off the other two LPs. Does the 24kt. CD have the same sound? I know that it's selling point was the single mix of Operator.
Why two gold discs??

 

As I understand it, the 2 DCC gold discs were the 24K "Gold in a Bottle" and "Words and Music." The latter had some stage banter and consisted of many of Croce's earlier tracks as well as the single version of Operator. The later 50th Anniversary Collection was not on DCC, but included his LPs Life & Times, I’ve Got a Name & Don’t Mess Around w/ Jim, and was also mastered by Hoffman.
