Bring it on! Like many around here, I'm a big fan of this later phase of Jimi's career, but I'm still looking for the most satisfying way to compile it all.

Somewhere at home I have a revamped track listing for the Blues album. I recompiled it with my favorites including tracks that were not yet commercially released when it was originally released.

In the early 90s, by the time I'd amassed a sizeable Hendrix collection I listed all the different versions of songs that Hendrix recorded and performed and counted them up. I had tons of official albums and a number of boots too... It took me some time to write them all down - I'm sure it'd be a lot quicker on a computer now.

Red House came way out on top with 16 different versions! I wonder how many I have now (?) :D

I don't have it in my collection yet, but there is an ROIO/Promo disc of additional tracks under consideration for Blues

I know discussion of bootlegs is not allowed so I will leave it that :)

I did a similar thing after PH&A had been released. My version had the SSD version of 'Power Of Soul' though, and I made a long composite for 'Captain Coconut' by using the 'MLK' jam and then crossfading it into 'New Rising Sun' (using the CL track as a template for the exact crossfade point). No SSB on mine either.

Alan Douglas originally had planned a compilation called Multicolored Blues that was never released. Some of the tracks were altered and ended up on Midnight Lighting, some on other later releases and some still have not been released officially.

I have an album called The Genius of Jimi Hendrix (on the budget line Trip label) consisting of vintage pre-experience material. On some of the tracks, he's playing guitar backing for other singers (like Lonnie Johnson on "She's a Fox") and not everything here is prime Hendrix, but there are some really good tracks like an 8-minute uptempo take of "Red House", a 7-minute slow blues called "Peoples Peoples", and 2 psychedelic freakouts ("Whoa Ech" and "Lime Lime"). The cover doesn't provide any info. Is this one of the Alan Douglas releases?

With the rewrite of Hendrix's discography, following the core albums(Are You Experienced thru Band Of Gypsies) is this the new order?(excluding live albums)
    New Rays
    South Saturn Delta
    People, Hell and Angels
    Then I add
    Blues

    People Hell and Angels

    1. Astro Man's Earthly Blues
    2. Soulful Devil Of The South Saturn Delta
    3. The Jimi Hendrix Experience

That is certainly not an Alan Douglas release. It's just the sort of garbage that has been damaging Jimi's reputation for decades. There are some pre-Experience Lonnie Youngblood tracks and a lot of FAKE Hendrix tracks. I think "Lime Lime" and "Whoa Ech" are fakes (unless they are other pre-Exp tracks with alternate titles). "Red House" and "Peoples, Peoples, Peoples" are from the 1968 Scene Club jam (released on bootleg initially as "Sky High" and later as "Woke Up This Morning And Found Myself Dead").

I had a lot of that stuff and even though I was so fanatical, it was not a pleasure at all for me to listen to the majority of it. :sigh: One listen would be all some of it got.

When I started to get JH books as Christmas presents (and I ended up with dozens) I started to discover which was fake and when I was hunting for his stuff and found more and more fake 'recordings' sold even in places like Woolworths - it would upset* me.

    * Putting it very mildly!

Yes, Lonnie Youngblood. I had the wrong Lonnie. I kinda like "Fox", though. I actually wondered if "Lime,Lime" and "Whoa Ech" were the real deal. If so, Clapton took the guitar lick in Cream's cover of "Outside Woman Blues" from it. If it's a fake, it was probably stolen from Cream. "Red House" and "Peoples" are worth having, but perhaps may be found in better company elsewhere. Thanks for the info. (Vintage material is good to have, but it must be approached with caution. I have the 2 Alan Douglas-released Richie Havens albums that consist of acoustic demos with studio overdubs. Richie had them pulled from the market since they were conflicting with his official releases at the time. I can't blame him for that, but they're interesting, especially for completists.)

Jimpress also did an interview with Alan prior to the release of :Blues and he showed them a cassette of the tracks under consideration. "The Things That I Used To Do" was definitely on that cassette but didn't make the final cut. Also, alternate versions (made from composites) of "Belly Button Window" and "Hear My Train 'A Comin'" circulated around the time of the :Blues release too. I suspect BBW wasn't included on any release as only a small portion of it is from an alternate take. The bulk of the composite was the released version from Cry Of Love. The composite of "Hear My Train..." included nearly all of the version recently included on "People Hell and Angels" (it's faded just before the track breaks down) but also included part of a version recorded with the experience that has not been officially released to date.

That must be the Scene Club jam on the "Outside Woman Blues" riff.

Never heard of that. Could you post the cover and track details please?

I'm not quite tech-savvy enough to post the covers, but here's some info on them. The one called Richie Havens' Record (on the Douglas label SD 779) has these liner notes: "These vocal recordings were made by Richie Havens with acoustic guitar in 1963-1964. The electric instrumentation was added by Douglas in 1968. As Richie no longer performs the material in this album, Richie Havens' Record has become a collector's item."
    Track listing:
    I'm On My Way
    Babe I'm Leaving
    Down in the Valley
    Nora's Dove
    I'm Gonna Make You Glad
    Chain Gang
    Drown in My Own Tears
    Daddy Roll 'Em
    It Hurts Me
    That's the Bag I'm In
Electric Havens (Douglas SD 780) is apparently from the same demo sessions, similarly overdubbed.
    Track listing:
    Oxford Town
    900 Miles from Home
    I'm a Stranger Here
    My Own Way
    Boots of Spanish Leather
    C.C. Rider
    3:10 to Yuma
    Shadow Town
Would be interesting to hear the acoustic demos without the overdubs.

I'm wondering if 'Peoples' is actually Bleeding Heart (from the Albert Hall - aka 'Peoples, Peoples, Peoples' - WELL worth having IMO and also appears on the 1982 'Concerts' album) and the lyrics go...

    Peoples, peoples, peoples
You know what it means to be left alone?
    Peoples, peoples, people
You know what it means to be left alone?

    Yeah Lord, it happened today
Lord, not even a call on my telephone
Understandin', Lord, a little love in the world
    Is all I need
    ...

This is a slow blues and the studio version - much faster and funky first appeared on War Heroes. I say this because I'm fairly sure that this version of Red House was on a cassette I had with live tracks on one side and some fake (? - can't remember if all or some were) tracks. I thought the version of Red House was good and didn't have it elsewhere. I can't find Lime Lime or Whoa Ech on You Tube to see if I recognise them but I have seen the titles before, most likely in a book. :)

I had a picture disc of Woke Up This Morning And Found Myself Dead (the one where Jim Morrison is with Jimi in The Scene Club) and I remember the riff to OWB being part of it somewhere along the line (*ahem* just before I posted this, I noticed that it's stated below too, coincidentally! :shh: That VERY nearly slipped by me.. :D)

    This is the tracklisting.

    1. Red House
    2. Woke Up This Morning & Found Myself Dead
    3. Bleeding Heart
    4. Morrison's Lament
    5. Tomorrow Never Knows
    6. Uranus Rock
    7. Outside Woman Blues
    8. Sunshine Of your Love

But as we know with a lot of these boots (especially regarding Jimi) some tracks can get called almost anything and end up with other unrelated tracks. :sigh:

    ^ (Post before last)

Beat me to it! :shake: Not to worry though. :)

    I don't think it'd change your world. :D

It's just like the rest of the session really - get an idea and run with it, see what happens... and I think that it's a good thing that it appears somebody switched JM's mic off for a time (he's distant on most of this) I say that as someone who loves The Doors (it made me very happy that I got The Doors Absolutely Live on CD, yesterday) and thinks Jim was fantastic!

I took the link off now, but I first played this through to check it doesn't contain the same use of expletives as some other parts of this 'album' (as it would offend some and it's a family forum as we know.)
