Of course they are. To make as much money as possible, which equates greed for me. Or business sense, which ever way you want to look at it. It is a business for them, more than curating Jimi's legacy.

I am not a Ladyland collector, but I just picked up a clean French Barclay edition from 1971.
Sounds very good to me, but I don't have my gear listed in the profile, so there you go.
Do you like it @Gordon Johnson?

I'm not a big fan of the new cover art. The photo is a good choice, however, the colors are all messed up, washed out and muddy. I spent an hour playing around with the cover art and can not believe EH didn't do a better job. The EH official verion is on the left[IMG] and my home spun color corrected version on the right.

I don't disagree with you; they are a corporation after all. By that measuring stick, though, there aren't really all that many artists camps that put curating a legacy ahead of making money. That doesn't make it right mind you, but more and more, "that's how it is".

I’m interested in the sound quality. I don’t buy music for the cover.

Indeed, it takes something, someone special to be leader in any field. So expecting a bog ( pun Intended) standard company to set any bench marks is a tad unreasonable.

    I can dig that :)

  10. Sorry but the right has way too much pushed color saturation IMHO. The skin tones are unnatural although I do get trying to push it more into a 60s look. Also the shadows are a bit more open on their version.

Anyone noticed that they have changed the font for the 2018 edition? Here is the 2008, 40th Anniversary version (actually on the Digipack of the CD and not the outer slip case!):

This font was on the back of the original Reprise album

I'm not happy that they changed it :realmad: (a graphic designer's rant)

I think it's nice that the statue photo finally gets it's due. You guys are graphic-obsessive!

I wish they would use the original font. It's a lot cooler looking to me. The new font looks like it came straight out of Microsoft Word.

    I'm almost 100% behind you...
The exception being the cover of Whipped Cream and Other Assorted Delights by Herb Alpert & the TB.
I'd buy that one even if the record was broken in two.

  15. I also really think it's great that the park/statue is finally getting some more significant and prominent exposure.

Not because I love the photo itself, but clearly Jimi did - and it's kind of growing on me too now. What I do like about it, is how low-key it is. Such a chill photo, and not the sort of thing you'd expect I don't think, not for a Hendrix album cover, nor even as a promo-shot either. So I like how unconventional it is.

Yes but if the idea is "to put things right", then putting together a luxury box set is surely the occasion to make sure that everything is tip-top, no?
Kurt is right, they should've been more careful.

As this has 5.1 maybe they should have created one of those lenticular sleeves

It's also interesting that Noel suddenly has red pants in the artwork to the right.

Subjective. Make the picture black and white, or even sepia...who cares?! :)

Well EH are being true and authentic to history then as the original UK sleeve's colours were hopelessly washed out as well!

It's "orange and teal" syndrome; the photographic equivalent to our loudness wars.

You can see how they've emphasized the blues (teal) over all else on the left.
