A "reunion" with 1 of 3 estranged band members returning is big news?

Definitely, the only other member who was essential to their sound. Not meaning to be negative on Iha and Wretzky but those drums from Jimmy were sooooo good.

Plus it doesn't harm ticket sales does it?? ;) But pleased to hear. I've long been absent from new Pumpkins material, ive heard some and it sounded alright. A live tour with Jimmy could tempt me to buy a ticket if they come to the UK.

    Butch Vig (2012 interview):
"He [Jimmy Chamberlin] and Billy Corgan really have a special dynamic...how they play. It's very hypnotic and I think that was the secret to the Pumpkins sound...it had this kind of sexy swagger in a way...very hypnotic...and...the only way I can describe it is they had this push pull thing and they were locked into each other..."

The interplay between Corgan and Chamberlain is the secret to the psychedelic supreme power of Gish.
    Great news indeed.

Chamberlin is a beast on the drums.

His playing on Silverf**k on Siamese Dream is vicious.

like every Smashing Pumpkins song, ruined the second Billy Corgan opens his mouth. I'd like to think the Smashing Pumpkins could have been a pretty great band in the 90s if only a different guy sang the songs.

I'm not big on SP but the combo tour with Manson triggers some small amount of nostalgia in me. Looked at the tickets at ACL Moody Theater and the tickets range from $99-$149 before all the fees are tacked on. Seems like that's pretty rich for this pairing. I could see dropping closer to $40 - $50 for the Balcony and maybe $65 for the floor. Will probably end up passing unless I turn a deal up on Craig's at the last minute.

Considering the vast majority of SP tunes are just Corgan and Chamberlin, I can see why fans are pumped. Those two were/are the band. I saw them live on the Gish club tour and JC was incredible. That said, I agree that Corgan's vocals have always sucked.

Gish is one of my fave albums. NO other album influenced my drumming as much as Gish did.....and Billy Corgan is one of the weirdest guys I've ever met. I saw the 'Pumpkins twice in England around 1991, he was standing watching the support band out by the sound desk one night. He was shaking and chewing his knuckle. I approched him and asked if he was okay...'I think I have AIDS..' he said...

I once told a friend to imagine a heavy Cheap Trick only Rick Nielson was the lead vocalist.

jimmy's drums were a huge part of the pumpkins...the next important one was d'arcy imo....
her harmony vocals(live) and bass sound was another big part.
james in 3rd...but james was a very melodic and spacey music lover...i think he and billy rubbed off on each other. which made those first 4 albums special was iha's "wussy" influence.

pretty sure that James and D'Arcy aren't even really on a Pumpkins record until Melon Collie, though

Chris from Chicago Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes

He does have this nasally whine, doesn't he? I've learned to look past it. And I've never let that get in the way of great music.

hmm..ive been told that before...was it you? i really dont think d'arcy and james played nothing until mellon collie...that would have been a huge fraud. it would have been on documentaries and stuff right?

i heard some live concerts and it has the same feel as the albums and sometimes better. i just figured d'arcy played....james iha had that wussy thing that i liked about billy then. now he is all about rocking out..meh.
