Yeah I thought the same thing, this would've been the issue promoting a release.

Well, there was the RSD alternate mix of "Rock And Roll." ;)

I actually thought "ha ha, it would be funny if that was all there was." Now look where we are.

Yes, impressive on the first spin but wearing out rather fast.

I don't get the Greta Van Fleet comparison. They don't sound anything like Zeppelin to me. None of the swing that Bonham & Jones had, and certainly lacking in riffs.

When people make the comparison, I don't think they're making it favorably.

It's certainly not a compliment when I say it.

You never thought of that because most people who've made the comparison have meant it favorably - in other words, those who like Greta Van Fleet and say they sound like Zeppelin mean it as a compliment. And those who dislike GVF and say they don't actually sound like Zeppelin also mean it in a complimentary way, although in that case of course only as a compliment to Zeppelin.

That's fine - just don't mistake your own personal view for a majority.

I second that. I think they sound like Zeppelin but I don't think in a good way. I wish them well, however. Sometimes bands start out emulating their influences and need to come into their own.
Zeppelin themselves from the first album to PG showed quite a bit of growth in sound. Perhaps change in sound if you don't prefer the later stuff to the early, but there's no doubt they developed.
I don't think it would be as noticeable if the singer from GVF was not seemingly copying Plant at every turn (vocally and fashion-wise). I expect him to blow his vocal chords as well fairly soon by singing in his falsetto the way he does. That will change their sound pretty quickly.

Is this because Jimmy is preparing for his 2019 solo project and tour? :shtiphat:

It's not so much that Greta sounds like Zep, it's just that it's overtly obvious they idolize Zep.

Interesting remark about "swing". I was talking to a drummer this past Saturday who mentioned this and explained the different swing that was used by Bonham and drummers from Texas, New Orleans, Chicago and California.

In spite of them not announcing a new physical release this year with time running out (still could happen, but not looking good), a download only release could definitely happen as far as the 50 year copyright extension goes and that usually happens in December with artists who do this every year like The Beach Boys.

To me, Greta may have the bombast of that aspect of Zeppelin, but lacks the swing, which to me is what made Zeppelin so great. Bill Ward too. In my opinion.

Amazing how Sabbath sounds different when you shift your hearing filters to Bill Ward swing. I experimented this after reading an article mentionning his swing.

About GVF, only time tell will tell.
