John Lennon-Imagine will be relased in July by MFSL but i am very dissapointed that the Gold cd will be redbook only-NO sacd layer. Is this the first relase by MFSL that will not be hybrid since MFSL came back into the Marketplace?

It's not a SACD, but a Gold CD!

You'll be more disappointed when you find out it's been remixed.

Mofi's only chance that they can fill their repertoire with John Lennon.

Has anyone heard the mix yet? Are all the songs tampered with?

It's the same mix like the regular remix/remaster

maybe its not SACD because they didn't mix it digitally in DSD a few years ago.

Why buy it if you already have the remixed/remastered version? A complete waste of money, IMO. Now, if they had released the original mix, that's a different matter completely. Frickin' Yoko!:realmad:

Quite frankly...I am disappointed that MoFi is bringing the gold CD series back at all. I think they should just stick to hybrid SACD for all new releases. The gold CD is just a way to justify a higher price tag IMO.

My guess would be that they wanted to have a Lennon title in their repetoire so badly, but were not allowed do an SACD version, so figured a gold cd was better than nothing.

Just out of curiosity, what are the main complaints associated with the remastered IMAGINE? Does it actually sound bad somehow -or- are people just mad because it's not the original mix?

One is the use of Noise Reduction by Mr. Mew.

They used NR on the multi-tracks tracks too.

Other than the No-Noise and it snubbing history, I think theses mixes are damn good.

I like the new Imagine. Some of the songs are very much more powerful and detailed, Crippled Inside fairly rocks along. However there are some very strange mix decisions, there is hardly any bass on How Do you Sleep, in fact in the chorus its almost not there , whereas the original was bass heavy and loud ( in a good way  )
I have the original Cd's and LP's for all of the Lennon catalogue, but I listen to the remixes(at the moment).
    Cheers
    John

I think this release of Imagine will be geared towards collectors. Most Lennon fans already have several copies of this album. I would prefer a hybrid/SACD with the original mix, but that doesn't seem very likely.

I'm guessing that a royalty rate has not yet been agreed upon by Apple/EMI and The Beatles & Co. for SACD releases.

That's maybe why it's just a gold CD release.

Thanks for the info ya'all... I'll pick this one up. I've never heard this new mix. Maybe PLASTIC ONO BAND will get the MFSL treatment someday too.

Maybe they've remixed the remix to sound like the original.

The MFSL "Double Fantasy" is pretty good though.

Too bad they can't master this from the original master tapes. Then they could do a nice SACD.

This disc has been delayed until August 26th, according to MOFI's website.

    My birthday! :)

Although I would have wished an original mix. :(

I personally like the disclaimer on the site:

"The release of John Lennon's Imagine on Ultradisc II Gold CD has been delayed until August 26, 2003. Many thanks to all who have contacted us expressing their concerns and enthusiasm for this blockbuster release!"

Outside of our concerns here, has anyone here complained to MoFi about this?

Why are people enthused about a gold disc remix?
