All the current "Deadheads" who have been singing his praises recently over his work with Weir & Co. are going to be pretty disappointed in this further-ization of tripe that has been Mayer's stock in trade for years now.
Regardless of his praised work with the Dead as of late (his guitar playing with them is good but his voice doesn't suit their material at all), this guy's solo work always has and likely always will, suck.

Guess the "spirit" of Jerry he's been talking about didn't enter into the crafting of this snoozefest of a song that would sit at home well on any 'soccer Mom's" playlist...

While John Mayer is "searching for everything", maybe he should search for some good songs?...

"John Mayer hasn't released a studio album since 2013's Paradise Valley, but it seems as if the long wait is finally over...sort of. Early Friday morning, Mayer released what he called 'Wave 1' of his new project The Search for Everything. It's a four-song collection that includes the previously-released single "Love on the Weekend" and three new tracks.

Mayer explained his rationale earlier this month in a Facebook post. "The album will be released four songs at a time," he wote. "There were too many songs to ever get out the door at once."

Mayer explained on Twitter that these new songs were performed and recorded by many of the same people who worked on his hit 2006 LP Continuum, including the world-class rhythm section of bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan. Go ahead, look at their credits: we'll wait."

Really like the sound of these new tracks and looking forward to the album.
Some great guitar work as always.

It's like Continuum but informed by the earthiness of Born and Paradise.

Are these "Wave" EPs just digital releases, or are there CD versions available?

I give him credit for not overproducing his music with overdubs, etc.

    He keeps it basic.

    Less impressed with this 'wave'.
They're quite a disparate bunch and it may be my age, but I'd like to have it sequenced as an album and hear how he sets up each song with the one before.
This release approach may be good for marketing but release/commit to the album already.

Watch him on Clapton's Crossroads series. It gave me a new appreciation for him as an artist and guitar player. Really changed my perception and I enjoy his work and look forward to the release of the new CD.

I wonder if us that bought the eps has bought over half the album already, or if some of the ep songs are exclusive.

These albums are growers I think. The backing band is phenomenal (Pino/Jordan) and the guitar fills are great. I just wish he would tour in smaller venues with the Trio, rather than his touring band in arenas... but looking forward to the full release!
