Is there a single disc compilation of songs from Johnny Cash's albums he made for the American Recordings label?

I couldn't find one but I thought someone here would know if one existed.

If there isn't one, I really think there should be one- you'd think there would be a market for it for people who don't want to buy the individual albums he made for that label.

    Thanks!

    I don't think so.

Sadly the only place I know of is in the "Cash Unearthed" set, which is kind of redundant as this is aimed at fans who will more than likely have the original albums anyway.

Yes, there is one. Unfortunately as a part of the boxset Unearthed.

Ah, Okay I have that box but I actually forgot about that. Seems kind of silly that they didn't release the compilation separately. Oh well.. Thanks, guys!

Although I have most of the original albums, I still could use a 2cd compilation from all his material for the label.

If you are a big Johnny fan, get them all. It would be hard to pick out just what songs on his American Recording's album to put on a compilation wouldn't it? Because these aren't necessarily greatest hit songs. I don't know how you would chose. He has a bunch of covers spread out through these. They all have their charm. I have all of them and love them.

The vinyl versions of those releases sound wonderful.

They definitely do sound great, Jerry, the only let down being the poor pressing quality of "Cash Unearthed", I only just managed to make one decent set out of two and even then it's not without it's flaws.

There actually has been one released, although it’s not very comprehensive and track selections are a bit lacking (imo): Johnny Cash ICON

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01G...+cash+icon&dpPl=1&dpID=618WRRRH-OL&ref=plSrch

I’d avoid it. At 11 tracks it’s too short and it misses dozens of key tracks from that period. I own it but probably bought it online since it doesn’t look like it ever received a US release. There are a handful of JC Icon and Icon2 releases that cover his Sun and Columbia periods and his short run with Mercury. So you have to be careful when you’re buying them so you’re sure that you’re getting the one you really want.

Boy, that does look pretty skimpy... A shame. Thanks for the information, though. :)

  12. Easy to make one if you already have the CDs.

It likely is, but you can get used and new copies from third party sellers for under $5.

You have it. So I guess we're done here.

I will state it's included in the vinyl edition, too. The vinyl edition of this box set was more expensive than the complete album set on vinyl. I would have preferred the exclusion of added vinyl for a lower cost and a smaller package. This is especially true because the "Best Of" set didn't include the final recordings in the series. To me, none of the "Best Of" releases make any sense. But it is what it is.

You'd have to work pretty hard to put together a less attractive tracklist from that era.
