Hey, Andy...

FWIW...both Joni Gold CD's (Court & Spark and Blue) from DCC are marvelous...the current eBay bendover mean is about forty bucks...

Still...only about eight bucks over retail and do we really expect either to ever be pressed again in this format?

Best,

Ben

Expect? No. Hope? Yes. Pray? All the time, especially for SACD remasters. :D

I'd like to do SACD's of Joni's "Blue" and "Ladies Of The Canyon".

Any DCC'rs know if either of these albums were mixed for Quad back in the 1970's?

Steve,
Does this mean you are thinking of using the 1970s quad mixes for SACD multi-channel? Would you consider making new surround mixes yourself from the multi-tracks? I don't have to tell you, but I'll mention it anyway, that there are plenty of annoying quad mixes that were done more to impress people than to be musically enjoying. Oh well, I'd listen to the stereo layer 99% of the time anyway.

Well I'd sure like to hear those! Hope it happens, with or without the quad mix/multichannel layer. I'd buy any Joni you do, and I'd buy additional copies for some friends. Bring it on, I say. :)

Try this, for an updated link to Quad "M" releases....
http://personal.riverusers.com/~manderso/quaddisc/quadpm.htm

I just noticed Mountain's Greatest Hits listed as a Quad release....How 'bout it Steve...I'd love to hear (at least) a "wider" Stereo separation on Mississippi Queen!
:D

Any Joni albums remastered by Steve would be welcomed, in whatever format they come. I would like to put in a vote for "Hissing of Summer Lawns" and "Hejira" - both classics deserving of the royal treatment.

Seconds, on Hejira. You did a wonderful job on the two you released, Steve, including Court and Spark on LP. Thank you for making those choices. I will continue to wonder if there could have been a better sounding Blue than my early original copy.

No. Only "Court & Spark" and "The Hissing of Summer Lawns" were mixed in Quad in the '70s.

The other Joni Mitchell disc to consider for a DCC SACD release would be "Both Sides Now" which is an original DSD recording.

I first heard SACD at CES2000 at Sony's demo room and being the only listener was a bonus. The track played was from "Both Sides Now" using 5 Sony speakers and HUGE Pass amplifiers. The sound easily surpassed any digital system i had ever heard and sounded more analog than digital. I was converted on the spot. Indeed, BSN would be a great SACD, both musically and sonically - especially if Sir Steve was at the mastering controls!

It would be great to hear Ladies Of The Canyon done by Steve Hoffman in any format he likes. I hope it happens someday soon.
